I back up to a netdisk. It has been working well for a year. Now, after a two week trip, Time Machine has been in a “Calculating Changes” mode. It has been four days, so I know something is wrong.

But what???

What kind of "netdisk"? Is it a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device, a Time Capsule, or what?

See #A1 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum) for a handy widget that will display the backup messages from your logs. Copy and post them here.

This is saying that your NAS doesn't support some of the requirements of Time Machine on Snow Leopard. See if WD has a software/firmware update for it.

Disk utility indicates that the source HD needs to be repaired.

See #6 in Formatting, Partitioning, Verifying, and Repairing Disks.

Also do the things in #D2 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
