Sep 30, 2010 10:27 AM in response to MDearworthby Chenks, have you tried changing the view on the appletv ? -
Sep 30, 2010 10:32 AM in response to Chenksby MDearworth,I've been through the settings a couple of times and I haven't seen any different view options, and the only different sorting options are "by date", "by show" and "unwatched". -
Sep 30, 2010 10:35 AM in response to MDearworthby Chenks,so which of those 3 views have you tried?
"by show" should sort (and group) them by season, i know it does on my original appletv and i don't see why it should be any different on the new one (afterall all the metadata comes from your itunes library). -
Sep 30, 2010 10:39 AM in response to MDearworthby captfred,When I display my TV shows on ATV2 "by Show" it sorts properly for me. -
Sep 30, 2010 10:51 AM in response to Chenksby MDearworth,I used "By Show" on my old ATV and it listed the 5 shows I have, and then when I selected a show it would group all the episodes by season. Now today I plug in my new ATV (2nd gen) and sort "By Show" and it lists it like I described, each individual season of each show as a separate show (so it appears as if I have over 25 shows). -
Sep 30, 2010 11:04 AM in response to MDearworthby captfred,I don't have enough shows to show that I guess. I wonder if this has something to do with it? From Apple support article:
*Home Sharing Tips*
Home Sharing transfers the media file and ID3 tag information. It does not transfer iTunes metadata, including ratings, play history, and comments. -

appletv2 isn't transferring anything though. that note is for itunes home sharing (where you are physically sharing/moving a file). -
Sep 30, 2010 11:24 AM in response to MDearworthby jvrousseau,Yes I have that issue, and I HATE it! I went through all views as well with no luck!
Also, I have this issue as well with TV Show Playlists....(sorting doesn't work either in playlists)
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2597977&tstart=15
Not sure why those things would be changed, but it is quite annoying. Hopefully something could be changed fairly easily! -
Sep 30, 2010 12:11 PM in response to jvrousseauby MDearworth,Glad someone else is in the same boat as I am. And darn, I was just about to try using playlists! So I guess this is how it's supposed to be...hopefully a software update will be released ASAP. -
Sep 30, 2010 1:20 PM in response to MDearworthby Andrew B. Peterson,Yes, I can confirm that the new Apple TV is not sorting my music playlists to appear in the "carefully crafted" order I have created in iTunes; it only sorts songs in playlists by alpha as far as I can tell. Also, I can confirm that TV show seasons are not being grouped together by show as they were previously. It lists all seasons of a show separately making for a much longer and hard to navigate list. These seem like backward steps and I hope they release an update soon. I will say that performance of the new Apple TV (playback, menus, etc.) are faster and smoother than the older hardware. The Netflix streaming is also a very welcome addition. Happy so far but hope to see the playlist and sorting issues fixed! -
Sep 30, 2010 2:45 PM in response to MDearworthby sonictonic,This is super annoying! Especially for music playlists
Everyone submit feedback to Apple please! This is how they will hear us!

Sep 30, 2010 3:24 PM in response to sonictonicby MDearworth,Submitted feedback is a great idea, thanks. Hopefully some more people will complain about it and they'll push out a quick update. -
Sep 30, 2010 5:57 PM in response to MDearworthby Andrew B. Peterson,Temporary Workaround: If you have an iPhone/iPad/iPod with the Apple Remote 2.0 software installed, you can browse the Apple TV with your Playlist contents shown in Apple Remote in the correct order as you set in iTunes. Starting playback from a playlist within Apple Remote 2.0 will play the songs in the correct order on the Apple TV.
Unfortunately, I also noticed that the TV Seasons are not grouped together in Apple Remote 2.0 either. The list appears identical to that on the Apple TV.
I also submitted feedback using the form above... thanks for linking to the feedback form. -
Sep 30, 2010 7:41 PM in response to MDearworthby jakehfred,This sorting issue is driving me crazy as well. I have over 2TB worth of TV shows that look great in my old AppleTV. When I browse them on my new AppleTV it makes things a whole lot more difficult to find. Thanks for the submit feedback link I have made a request as well.
