I have a differtent problem.
I installed a AE firmware 6.3, connected to my Wifi, audiojack to my stereo.
My problem is that i can't find at any place how to select remote speakers in iTunes.
The option in preferences for iTunes to look for remote speakers is ON.
I tried a hundred times now but nothing works.
Do you have a solution for me?
My iTunes version is 9.0.2.

Anyways, I still have NO luck getting my Airport Express to work. I am even using an entirely wired connection right now. Wired at the PC and wired at the Express.
Apple has been no help.

Voila, problem solved. weird."

Currently Being ModeratedJan 2, 2010 3:23 AM (in response to Kenneth Kirkpatrick)Hi There
I've been following this string as I "lost" Airport connectivity back in September, seems there is still no resolution for this issue on a Windows platform ? Has anyone tried taking the Airport back to Apple ? Any official response? What happens to new purchasers, do they have this problem ? Pretty poorLenovo T61 Laptop, Windows XP Pro
Currently Being ModeratedJan 31, 2010 5:00 AM (in response to Ryan Brucks)Hi
I have airport express attached to my network via ethernet. Since upgrading to v9 I had problems connecting my 3GS to the airport express but having added a couple of ports in my AVG firwall I can now connect.
Like everyone else however I get the error message '....can't connect to remote speaker'. Worked OK on previous version of iTunes, so I think this is a bug. Pain in the a**s though, listening to music from my PC in my living room using my iPhone as a remote was the ONLY reason I bought the Airport express.
I gues we have to wait for a fix from AppleHP, Windows 7, 3GS+Netgear Router+Airport Express
Currently Being ModeratedMar 7, 2010 9:04 AM (in response to iq2hi4u)I hope this helps, but I get the same problem/error on my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard (all updates, most current version of iTunes) when trying to stream music to a remote speaker - but when I use Windows 7 via bootcamp it works like a charm. It also works from my Dell PC in our bedroom. I still can't fix it on the Mac side and can't understand how the same machine, same hardware, same airport setup can work on windows but not on the mac os - hopefully this info helps people.Apple MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)
Currently Being ModeratedMar 19, 2010 8:03 AM (in response to mpdajo)Having the same problem. Just updated to Itunes 9 and the external speakers stopped working. Was working fine in the previous version of Itunes. Is there an easy way to go back to the previous version?Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Currently Being ModeratedApr 1, 2010 4:59 AM (in response to whoop)Thanks for this suggestion !! After a reboot and a reset of my Airport Express base that both fail to fix my Airtunes issues (the remote speaker was visible in the appropriate menu but selecting it gave no result), I rebooted the Time Capsule and everything works as expected !

Currently Being ModeratedApr 2, 2010 6:52 PM (in response to Ryan Brucks)Mark one more down for Airtunes with iTunes 9 not working on Vista, but working on Mac OS X 10.4.
I have my router plugged directly into the Express, so I don't think there would be any network interference.
I just setup the network a month ago, but this is a problem that has been going on since September?!? ***? (aside: wow, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is censored...)Airport Express with latest firmware., Windows Vista
Currently Being ModeratedMay 3, 2010 1:36 PM (in response to Ryan Brucks)I had a similar issue where my Mac could connect to my AirPort Express AirTunes, but my Apple TV could not. Prior to the last upgrade, everything was working fine.
Meanwhile, my MacBook had no problems connecting to the AirTunes speakers.
Rebooting my AirPort Extreme router seems to have fixed the problems between my AirPort Express and Apple TV - even though I can't see how it could be involved.
All devices are up to date as much as I can update them; MacBook Pro, Apple TV, Airport Extreme, Airport ExpressMacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Worked a treat, Update of iTunes killed my airport. Changed the airport IPv6 from Automatic to off and it hooked straight up. Was killing me that the poxy old XP machine was working and the Mac wasnt.MB, Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Currently Being ModeratedAug 15, 2010 9:24 AM (in response to Ryan Brucks)I found that if i shut my secondary firewall (windows7 has one and bitdefender which i use for virus protection also has one) that this problem resolved itself. once i shut the bit defender firewall the remote speakers box popped back up the firewall on also blocked my iphone from being able to remotely run itnes another problem i fixed by shutting the firewall in bit defenderWindows 7
Currently Being ModeratedSep 12, 2010 1:51 PM (in response to Ryan Brucks)Having already figured out my Airtunes/ITunes8 install and WRT610n with SPI enabled don't work well together I thought I was good.
However I upgraded to ITunes 9, and everything broke, then hopefully again to ITunes 10, still broke. Symptoms were Airport Express speakers would show up in ITunes multiple speaker dialog just fine, but they were 'disabled' I couldn't select them.
Well I think I figured out why mine broke, thanks to Airfoil... But I'm not super happy with the solution.
I'm running Vista with ITunes 10 on a Low-user Privilage account. The connectivity diagnostics in ITunes were next to useless - they showed everything green/ok.
That AE showed up in the dialog tells me that the Bonjour multicast discovery was working just fine. Just they refused to connect - made me wonder about TCP settings and firewalls.
I've been through every setting on both software and hardware firewalls, to the point where I disabled them both just in case. No soup. I've scoured IPv6 from my entire network too following the same chain of thought. No soup.
However, as a last ditch thought, I ran Airfoil to see if it could connect to the same speakers. It discovered them ok, but then refused to connect, with a real exception error dialog when I tried. I didn't have sufficient privileges to open the socket.
Hmm "Permissions" I though I ran Airfoil using "Run As Administrator" and it started and connected to AE immediately with no fuss or errors.
I tried the same with ITunes, more messy since it is an embedded shortcut, finding ITunes.exe and right-clicking "Run As Admin". It started just fine, discovered the speakers, and connected - success!
Well not really... Running "as admin" really means loading the Administrator user's profile, settings etc..., such that ITunes only loads Administrators library, not the library of the current user. And of course running ITunes in an elevated privilage is a big security risk.
The converse, elevating the current LUA user to Admin is equally unpalatable, I'm not giving my kids admin permissions - its already prevent viruses multiple times.
ITunes developers - I've not isolated what permission ITunes users need for this to work, but if need a repro I can help.Win PC, Windows Vista, LUA User Account, ITunes 10, 7.4.2 Airport Express
