Sep 29, 2010 11:46 AM in response to flbmxgirlby jdlenard,I'm another user with the same exact problem. It's doubtful that Apple is unaware of the problem. -
Sep 29, 2010 3:55 PM in response to jdlenardby j Robson,When you guys call Apple regarding this issue. What did they say or suggest you to do?? -
Oct 1, 2010 2:45 AM in response to j Robsonby j Robson,i called apple yesterday, they asked me to reset SCM, boot up in safe mode, and delete the systempreferences.plist, but of course none of them work.
also, i asked if this is a known issue and she told me no. how odd.
i guess i need to make an appointment to apple store soon. what a pain? -
Oct 2, 2010 2:24 PM in response to flbmxgirlby jbspringrose,Hi All,
I thought I'd weigh in here as well. I had the trackpad replaced with a tech at the Genius Bar. They told me the screw was the problem. Lo and behold, two weeks later it starts happening again. Back to the Apple Store for me.
It seems to be especially frequent when using the Adobe Creative Suite...could be other factors as well? -
Oct 4, 2010 1:43 AM in response to flbmxgirlby zio_tom78,Thanks to this thread, I have discovered just now that I am not the only one to experience such problem. Hope Apple will solve this issue fast - sometimes they are a bit slow in fixing bugs (http://www.osnews.com/story/21522/9Month_Old_Critical_Java_Vuln_Still_Not_Patched_in_Mac_OSX)
@timharding: on my computer your solution worked after a few attempts: I had to select some text more than once before the problem disappeared. Still, yours is a much better solution than rebooting every time. Thank you!

Oct 6, 2010 12:58 AM in response to flbmxgirlby andex, same situation here. started happening after the software update.
seems that it is a common bug and i suppose a genius bar appointment won't help?
had been using the old mbp for years and i only visited genius bar once to replace my charger.
got this i7 for 2 months; and visited genius bar thrice. and discovered 2+ blindspot/whitespot. -
Oct 6, 2010 12:37 PM in response to andexby sabbione, apparently this thread is a dup of 'Magic Trackpad stuck on selected text'; the issue is definitively the same one.
I posted on the other thread a possible workaround that is disabling Bluetooth.
I did that 4 days and I did not see the problem since then.
Will let you know if it works for good -

Oct 6, 2010 6:13 PM in response to shaerartieby smakie,After my trackpad replacement a week and a half ago, still going strong. Mine also would register single/two-finger clicks - maybe there was a bad batch of trackpads? I suggest you get it swapped out. Other than that, best laptop I've ever had. -
Oct 10, 2010 3:55 AM in response to flbmxgirlby Orbitfox,+1 for me. Had the MBP from about 1.5years now, this has only started to happen since the latest sw update.
PLEASE apple fix this bug.. it makes the system unusable when it happens.. very annoying if in the middle of work and you haven't saved. -
Oct 12, 2010 12:41 PM in response to Orbitfoxby SolidSnake666,Same probleme here with my three month old MacBook Pro 15". The malfunction started last sunday. Single click is recognized as right click (two fingers), cursor hangs etc.
Reboot sometimes helps for few hours, sometimes for few minutes. I'm not sure but I think the only update I did on sunday was iTunes update otherwise all updates are installed on my system. I called customer Care twice today. With the first supporter we did hold Shift-Ctrl-Alt, power on button, 10 seconds waiting. Then restart and hold (can't remember) Shift - alt - r (??) and power on again. After that trackpad runs normal for three hours. Then same issue. I called Apple support again and did following:
- Starting in safe mode (all normal)
- cleaning library/cache folder
- delete universalaccess.plist / systempreferences.plist
- restart
- after two minutes trackpad issue
- supporter was frustated
- creating new user account and logging in with new user
- no problems
- going back to my main user, no problems
- working 4 hours without problems
- leave office / eat something at home
- starting up MacBook, after two minutes trackpad issue
- restart all works fine now since 30minutes
Is this a Software or Hardware issue??? I'm not keen to send my MacBook for service or drive several miles to the next Apple Store when it is "just" a software problem.
Hope anyone have an answer for this problem. Thank you and sorry for my bad english. -
Oct 13, 2010 6:17 PM in response to SolidSnake666by Liondog72,Same issue here. Relieved to see it's not user error on my part. Does anyone from apple read this forum and respond...I can't believe so many people are having the same issue after an update and they haven't acknowledged the problem and attempted to correct it?? -
Oct 13, 2010 9:03 PM in response to flbmxgirlby missvee,ALRIGHT, So I took my computer in to the apple store because out of anger over this issue i hit my track pad so hard i cracked it (they replaced it because the guy working had had the same problem and felt sorry for me..thanks apple) but it is a software issue according the the employee. no time frame as to when it will be fixed. but as a side note i have not had this problem once since they replaced the trackpad (I Hope I didn't just jinx myself.) -
Oct 14, 2010 2:16 AM in response to flbmxgirlby shaerartie,I formatted my hard-drive completely twice and this problem doesn't go, so it can't be a software fault i guess its HARDWARE
