Oct 19, 2010 5:41 AM in response to time_we_thinkby PeterMagee,Same problem here. I have POP, and Gmail too. Have restarted (does anyone say IPL anymore?) but there it sits.
RIM may have an App Store mountain to climb, but there are still some peaks my Apple friends have to overcome. -
Oct 21, 2010 6:46 AM in response to PeterMageeby jorellano,Mine began doing the same thing yesterday. However, if you don't want to wait through power cycling to fix the problem, then at the home screen, you can double-click the Home button and then tap and hold on the mail icon, hit the button to quit Mail from running in the background, and then open it up again, and all should be fixed. =)
Sure, it's annoying when it happens and a little misleading, but at least you know you can fix it if it stays downloading 1 of 1 for longer than necessary.
Hope that helps!

Jan 7, 2011 7:22 AM in response to geoboneby AmaJoe,Same problem for about 4 days on iPhone 4 with 4.2.1. Stuck on 'downloading 1 or 1" with nothing on the servers of 2 accounts: mobileme and a pop mail. Mail came and went, seemingly as usual.
Cycling power seemed to fix it. -

May 24, 2011 5:16 AM in response to nannan1953by gregfromessexvt,For the more non-Apple-junkies out there (like me), power cycling the iPhone is easy. Here's how to power cycle the iPhone.
Hold down the Home button (the one below the screen) and the top Power button (the thin one at the very top of the iPhone) simultaneously. When the phone asks you to slide to power it down, do so. BAM!, you iPhone has cycled power.
To hard reset your iPhone, keep holding down the buttoons until the screen goes blank.

Nov 15, 2011 4:55 PM in response to energyfarmerby segalsegal,Why is this going on for at least 15 months and nothing is done, despite many OS changes?
Is there a good list of iPhone annoyances that keeps lists of these things so one doesn't think one is the only one with the problem? Such resources are useful empowerment tools, particularly when dealing with products for which being perfect is a big part of their self image, so important that they discourage discussion of problems.

Feb 22, 2012 3:27 PM in response to jorellanoby SteveC2012,Thanks for that. I had the same problem on my iPad2 - spent ages searching for a solution online. Your suggestion worked in about 5 seconds!

Feb 28, 2012 11:16 AM in response to geoboneby sgroovez,I got rid of this problem by double clicking the home button. This brings up icons of recently used apps. If you press and hold on one of the apps at the bottom of the screen, a red circle (or black X)with a dash should show up in the left corner. Click on the circle to close the app. Then press the home button again. Open Mail and hopefully the downloading status will be gone.
