Currently Being ModeratedOct 21, 2010 12:33 AM (in response to Hector Gil)You can buy a cable that has a mini display port on one end, and a standard display port plug on the other. It would be a male-to-male cable. Not sure I'm allowed to post a link to a product, but you will find the cable if you do a search for it. There are a couple of big internet retailers that carry it. I'm using one myself...Unibody 15" MBP - Mac mini - iPhone 3G, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Great, very cheap cables can be bought on Amazon.com. I connected my iMac to my HDTV and home theater as described below, but please note that the exact cables you will need depends on which Mac you have. Not all Macs have the same outputs, and you obviously have to have cables compatible with yours; the cables listed below might not work with your computer--so be careful! If you post details about your system, others can give you better advice specific to your computer.
I used the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (female) Cable for Apple Mac (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0025V2VO0/ref=cmcr_asinlnk) along with 25ft HDMI to HDMI Cable Premium Gold Series HDMI Certified (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EPRG6W/ref=cmcr_asinlnk) to connect my iMac to my HDTV. The picture is fantastic! Don't pay for overpriced cables--these work great!
Note that you have to have a separate audio connection, as the Mini DisplayPort is only video out, no audio. I used the Digital Optical Audio TosLink to Mini TosLink Cable, 12 FT (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ZTXBMO/ref=cmcr_asinlnk) along with RiteAV - Digital Optical Toslink Cable 25ft. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000V06UHQ/ref=cmcr_asinlnk) and Optical Extension Coupler (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002MQGRC/ref=cmcr_asinlnk) to connect my iMac to my home theater. I bought all the cables and connector on Amazon for practically nothing compared to retail. It sounds fantastic--HUGE improvement over bluetooth or RCA connections. Don't waste money on expensive cables. The cheap ones carry the digital signal just as well.iMac 21.5 inch - 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.6.5)
