Oct 28, 2010 3:55 AM in response to dongskiliby Philly_Phan,★HelpfulYes. That's a selection in iTunes. Connect the iPad to your computer. -
Oct 28, 2010 4:13 AM in response to dongskiliby Ralph Landry1,Connect your iPad to the USB port on your computer, open iTunes and on the left side of the panel will appear a category for Devices...select the iPad. The summary window will have the information on the iPad and below that the choice for Restore. Select Restore, and you will have to do some confirming usually, and the system will go to work restoring the iPad to the factory settings. Since this unit has not been used, you don't have to worry about losing any loaded settings or software.
Then go ahead and register the iPad and give it a name, etc. -
Oct 28, 2010 4:23 AM in response to Ralph Landry1by dongskili,i did that already and i was prompted to unlock first from the ipad. which i can't because there is nothing on the ipad to click on, just the background and nothing else. -
Oct 28, 2010 4:29 AM in response to dongskiliby Ralph Landry1,Ok, first, keep in mind this is a user-to-user forum so we sometimes need to ask a lot of questions that may seem simple but we need information to try and sort out issues.
When you power up the iPad, exactly what happens? Does the grey Apple logo appear in the center of the screen? Then what do you get after it is powered up?
Have you fully charged the iPad from a wall outlet?
Just trying to establish a baseline that we can work from. -
Oct 28, 2010 4:47 AM in response to Ralph Landry1by dongskili,hi ralph, thank you for your reply. when i turned it on the first time, i was able to configure it to my wi-fi and can use it normally, browsing, youtube, and apps. but never plugged it into a computer, so it was never registered to any computer. i was even able to download free apps. this morning, when i open it again, i was prompted to enter passcode. i don't know the passcode so i checked the internet if there is a default passcode. from the ipad support page, i see local wipe procedure wherein you let a number of wrong passcodes and it should wipe out the ipad and i thought that will reset it to factory setting. but it didn't and all i see is the 'ipad is disabled. connect to itunes'. I connected it to my mac and i was prompted to unlock from ipad. is there a way to reset it to factory default? -
Oct 28, 2010 5:11 AM in response to dongskiliby lllaass,Unless you know he passcode, all you can do is to restore the iPad using the restore button in iTunes. It is asking you since if it was not set to erase the iPad, it allows you to regain access without restoring. The restore button is in the Summary tab in iTunes under your device (iPad). -
Oct 28, 2010 7:49 AM in response to lllaassby Philly_Phan,In reading your response, I'm concluding that, if an iPad is PW-protected, a thief will be unable to do anything with it. Am I correct? -
Oct 28, 2010 8:18 AM in response to Philly_Phanby C Ogle,A thief can erase/restore the iPad and set it up as new, since anybody can connect to it through iTunes. All putting a passcode lock on the iPad does is makes it difficult to look at your personal data stored on that device. If you are concerned about theft, your best bets are to 1) Use MobilMe to try to locate it and erase it remotely if that fails and 2) Add it to an insurance policy of some kind. -
Oct 28, 2010 9:05 AM in response to C Ogleby Philly_Phan,Naah. I'm not concerned. I just like to know how things work. Thanks for the response. -
Oct 29, 2010 1:21 AM in response to lllaassby dongskili, keep in mind that this ipad was never registered to any computer. i think there is a backdoor to this problem. which i would like to know. -
Oct 29, 2010 4:19 AM in response to dongskiliby Philly_Phan,As C. Ogle just indicated, you don't need the pass code to start out brand new, which is what you want to do anyway. -
Oct 29, 2010 4:34 PM in response to Philly_Phanby dongskili,I figured how...force recovery...thanks for all the replies.. -
