Q: Not recognizing spacing

I've using Live Type for the past week without issue, but a problem has just popped up. When I attempt to use any of the Live Type typefaces, spacing isn't recognized. I can press the space bar 5... 10... 20 times and nothing happens. However, if I use any system typeface the issue doesn't occur.

Anyone know what may be causing this issue? Thanks!

LiveFonts should recognise the space bar.
Close LiveType. Open the Finder and go to: your user name/Library/Preferences.
    Trash the file com.apple.LiveType.plist.
    Launch LiveType again. Any improvement?

Thank you for the reply, but unfortunately that didn't work. It's weird that this issue only happens with the Live Type fonts but not the regular ones.

For the time being I've just included a dash in between works and then dropped their opacity. At least that way I know the spacing will be accurate in comparison of doing the spacing manually.

Info: I use FCP Studio 2 (LiveType 2.1.3) at the moment, I use Aperture 3, and recently upgraded to iLife 11. I have the most up to date OS X update.

I've been using Pro Series "Bar" LiveFont for some time. This "Loss of Spaces" problem is happening to me also. I've done all the recent updates, I've even recently installed iLife 11. One of the distinct problems I'm having is that previous titles created in LiveType that I know were OK are now converting to "No Spaces" as soon as I open them. Although I'm seeing spaces in the text in the inspector window, the text in the canvas has lost all it's spaces and everything is just all together. Returns work OK, but the next lines do the same...No Spaces???

I hope this problem is tackled quickly by Apple.

    You have installed new software

One thing I always do after installing any new software is to repair permissions.

In a nutshell, when you install software it contains a list of files with the proper permissions for each file.

Repairing disk permissions checks the files and compares and corrects differences.

    Give it a try.

To repair permissions Go to: Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility

    Select your system disk

Click on the Repair Permissions button

Wait for the permissions to be repaired

    Restart your computer

I just tried what you recommended and although stuff had to be fixed, the problem with lost spaces persists...

    Problem continues...

I to tried disk permissions to no avail. The problem occurred after installing the 10.6.5 update though.

Same here ! - Last night I installed Mac OS 10.6.5 and today the spaces are missing on LiveType titles that had already been correct. And I can't fix them. I hope Apple acts quickly because I have to get this project out and I'm totally screwed right now.

Same here. I currently half way through a project using "Bar" and I'm in a holding pattern now.

Oh please I hope they fix this one right away...

I just got off the phone with an Apple tech support specialist. He said that Apple no longer supports LiveType (They're converting to Motion), and the spacing problem is simply a quirk of the upgrade to latest Mac OS. We're screwed.
One temporary work-around: You can select letters and words in the CANVAS and physically slide them apart to create spaces.

    Same problem here.

I've been using sort of a sloppy workaround, but it gets the job done for me. I use an underscore character ( _ ) as a placeholder for the space, then I go into the Inspector's text window and highlight the underscore, then on the "Style" tab set "Character:" to "Invisible". It can take a while, given that I have to do this for every single space, but...

Hope that helps. I know I'm using an older version of LiveType (v2.1, I think).

I've never had a problem with livetype doing this until now. Very disappointed that the reason for it is that Apple is phasing out LiveType for a better OS. Not all of us have the time to familiarise ourselves in alternative software programs and just want to be able to finish our work!

F.Y Apple, I used to be a big fan but your doing more and more things to frustrate me these days, very close to switching back to PC.

And another unhappy user here! Going to try the underscore tip.

You are a star, thanks. Although I used '.' as '_' gave too much space, but it is nice to know that the different characters give us options.

I don't understand why Apple no longer supports LiveType even though they still sell it with Final Cut Express 4.0. Why stop supporting a product they still sell bundled with FCE?
