In my case, nothing was installed at all. The machine was being used as received right out of the box. The symptoms just continued with increased frequency.

Yes you can get a new one. I was offered that option and declined at this point, because I think this is a wider problem than anticipated.

i dont think its that widespread, ive had two in the last week or so and both worked fine, the one im typing on now has been running constantly for 6 days,as well as been taken out with me,and its great, not a problem at all,so its isolated, just get a new one a swap over,im sure you can, apple are good like that,or hassle the store you bought from,go to apple first, and get them to sign statement that it was doa, then take it to store u bought, demand a new one.

I had similar problems as those described. Used the new 13" closed with a cinema display and bluetooth magic mouse and apple keyboard. If I unplugged from the monitor and shut down the power on the bluetooth peripherals the machine locked up the keyboard and mouse upon wakeup and I had to hold down the power button and reset.

I found that as long as I turn off the bluetooth peripherals first and see confirmation on the screen and then unplug from the cinema display I don't have any more problems.

I bought the new Macbook Air (13", 1.86Ghz, 256GB) this weekend and I am having troubles with the instan on feature.

The problem is that when the lid has been closed, without the computer turned off, and then opened it happens that it won't get out off sleep mode. The computer stays in sleep mode even when the lid is up. It does not matter if I press any buttons it won't turn on. I have to hold down the power button until it turns off then reboot it.

This has happened a lot, out of the approximate 20 times I have closed it this has happened about three or four times.

One time when I opened the lid the screen turned on but it was completely fixed and I could not move the mouse or use the keyboard.

When I have rebooted the system I get the message saying that it was turned off due to implications and I have the option to report the problem which I have done.

What should I do now? Should I return it to the store where I got it or should I wait and see what happens?

    Thanks in advance.

Try resetting the PRAM and SMC. Worked for me.

My son and I bought 11 inch Airs on the same day at the same store. His Air works perfectly. Mine sometimes wakes from sleep, sometimes falls is a limbo from which only a cold start will bring it back to life. His Air connects to our wireless router immediately, mine generally has to try two or three times.

As per Jamiana link above. This is an acknowledged issue from Apple and they are working on a software update/fix. I have had the same issue with the 11". Hopefully the fix will come out soon and the problem will be gone.

Same issue here with a 13 inch air…

I’ve had my new air for about 3 weeks.

When I close the lid and it would seem and re-change the unit, about 40% of the time when I open the lid nothing happens at all. The Air is unusually warm, considering it’s been off for several hours.

The only way to turn the unit on is to press and HOLD the power button. The machine turns on and generates a crash report which I send to Apple.

It’s happening about twice a week and only when I am re-charging (I think). I charge the air about 3 times a week.

Swapped out Airs 3 days ago and had my first failure 30 minutes ago. Wow, I keep discovering threads here where more and more people are having this issue. Disturbing trend...

This is my problem when I wake up my MBA from long periods of sleep. I would have to close the lid and open it again for the trackpad to function properly. I'm not entirely sure what the problem is but hope that Apple comes up with an update or something that fixes it, assuming that it is a software issue.

My MBA 11' shuts down completely after the lid has been closed for 10 + minutes, have to press the power on button and wait for it to restart all together... very disappointed - the 'instant on' was a key reason to my purchase
