Currently Being ModeratedNov 11, 2010 9:48 AM (in response to macosgeek)I was getting this problem with my handbraked movies with ac3 5.1 soundtracks. I turned the option for dolby to "on" in the Audio-Video sub folder rather than auto and the file loaded.iMac 2.93 Core i7, Mac OS X (10.6.5), 8 Gb Mem iphone4 atv2

Currently Being ModeratedNov 19, 2010 1:37 AM (in response to Fiona K)I just bought 2 of the 2nd gen apple tv's and am getting the same error message - very annoying. I'm also getting it from my music library. Haven't tried photos yet.
Running the itunes library off an external hard drive with itunes open on my mbp.
If I start playing the movie in itunes on my laptop and hit pause & leave it open, then use the apple tv, it works. So dis the music - tried while the movie was still open in pause.Mac Book Pro, 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.5.4)
Currently Being ModeratedNov 19, 2010 2:11 AM (in response to Pink Freud)Mine might be an issue with which library is open.
My iphone apps are synced on my mbp. The music, movies etc. on the external hard drive.
If i start playing a song on my mbp, it must change to the hard drive library - apple tv seems to play it then. Could be just random events - will have to try more.Mac Book Pro, 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

Currently Being ModeratedNov 23, 2010 8:20 PM (in response to macosgeek)I found it to be a problem caused my chapters in handbreak. Trying opening the file in "Subler", delete the chapter track, and save. (This is all instant, no encoding or copying etc..).Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.5)
Currently Being ModeratedNov 23, 2010 11:53 PM (in response to Tom Ledbetter)My problem was the question of where the file was. If i double click any file in itunes which is on the external hard drive, any file on that drive works fine. Apple TV must need this first even the itunes is seeing it.Mac Book Pro, 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

You know this is the first product I buy from Apple.
Now I have 2 rented movies and 2 TV series just passing the countdown for the remaining days without any glimmer of hope to actually get them playing!
I have tried everything written in the threads above but to no avail!
If anyone has a solution please let me know!!!Windows Vista

I have several films all ripped in the same format using the same program but some will play and others wont. DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!! does any one have any more ideas on a cause or fix?iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.5), ATV 2
Currently Being ModeratedNov 28, 2010 4:15 AM (in response to mwardy)Hi again ive managed to sort this now I read somewhere else on here that someone thought it was to do with chapters and yes they are correct all of the films that would not play had no chapter markers.
I have converted the films again this time splitting into chapters and merging back to one film and this now works. Hope this helps

Currently Being ModeratedNov 28, 2010 4:30 AM (in response to mwardy)Dear Mark,
The movies that are not playing I have rented from I-Tune store.
Do you have a solution for this problem?
Currently Being ModeratedNov 29, 2010 11:48 AM (in response to macosgeek)Try this it worked for me.
Start a movie in itunes and than use Airplay in iTunes to send it to the AppleTV. I received an error the first time that read " HDCP isn't supported by your HDMI connection" there is a whole other tread on this. The second time I tried it worked. Than my ATV2 found all the Movies and shows.
I'm curious, How many people have the movies on an external drive attached to an Airport or Time capsule. I do and think the issue lies with that connection and setup.
Hope it works for all!Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz, 4 gig ram, Mac OS X (10.6.5), Time Capsule, Airport Express
