It could be because your eyes are straining to see the smaller fonts? If that is the case, have you tried taking down the resolution by one notch. I did that by going to System Preferences -> Displays and changing it to 1920 x 1080. That helped, but still wasn't quite enough for me, so I went to Finder -> View (top menu bar) and changed the text size to 14 (other choices are available). I also changed the minimum text sizes in my browsers, Mail, etc.
If you haven't tried any of those, give them a try and see if that helps.

Before you buy plastic film or something to stick over your Display, there a are a couple of other free things that you should try first.
1. Shades > http://www.charcoaldesign.co.uk/shades
+Shades is also great if your working in a dimly lit room.+
2. Selecting and/or Calibrating a darker Display Profile.
