Q: "You are not a member of the Administrator group" message

I just got a new 32GB iPod touch. Whenever I try and download an app I get this message "You are not a member of the Administrator group"

I have looked through iTunes to try and find a setting to switch but I have not been able to find one.

Thanks

It is not a iTunes setting. It is a Windows setting. The user you logged in as does not have administrative privileges. You either have to log in with an account that has admin privileges or change the privileges of the existing account. The latter requires someone with admin privileges.

we also have the very same problem with an apple ID of my son.

Logging in, resetting the password or using the 'I forgot the password...' route will always end up with the message:

'You are not a member of the administrator group.'

as this is a web based identification it is certainly NOT related to local admin privileges (also: in my case running firefox on Windows XP I have system admin privileges). also running the process in Safari browser on the iPad gives the same result.

I think somethings broken on the server side @ Apple.

    anyone knows a work around?

    I'm having the same problem.

My son created a new AppleID to use with Game Center. Unfortunately, he associated the new AppleID with my email, and now somehow the two accounts are linked.

I'm logged in to my desktop with my Admin account. When I access Apple to change the new account, I get the error "You are not a member of the Administrator group".

When I access Apple using the original AppleID, I get in no problem.

Both attempts are while logged into the desktop using my Admin account. So something is wrong on the Apple side..

The Apple ID of my son was originally also created via Game Center and linked to my e-mail as he is underage.

I, however, cannot see his account when logging in with my Apple ID.

Where exactly do you see that? (a short how to would be helpful, thanks)

Same problem here. My daughter cannot log into her game center account and when we try and reset her password, we get the same message "you are not a member of the administrator group". I cannot find any link of her account to mine. I don't know what to do and she is very upset because although we can create a new ID for her, she will lose all her game achievements.

    Anyone have a solution?

Your signature indicates an iMac but, this error message sounds like a Windows administrative rights issue. If it is a Windows box' I suspect her account does not have administrative rights. Try changing her account type to "administrator" and try again. Otherwise search Google/Bing with the exact error message your receive. Odds are someone else has had this problem and found a fix.

    Good Luck.

No, we are 100% Apple here and do not have any PCs with Windows. Googling this error message is how I found this discussion in the first place, but unfortunately is the only place I have found any mention of this message. Thanks anyway.

I have the same problem with my daughters game center account. The app tells her she has an incorrect password. When we go to iforgot to retreive password it says the appleid is not a member of the administrator group.

I can not see or retrieve her password using my AppleID.

Same here. Both of my daughters game center accounts fail to login after the 4.2 update. Upon visiting the site to reset the passwords we receive the "You are not a member of the administrator group" right after we answer the security question. It looks to me like the password reset script is what doesn't have admin privileges. Odly, my game center account does not have a problem. My ID however is linked to a credit card and various other apple services. It looks like this problem only affects non purchasing ID's.

this is still not fixed, when I try to access the apple ID in question, I get the "You are not... " message.

has anybody heard of a work around or a statement from Apple on this?

    thanks,
