New ipod nano worked fine for a few months, now the voice over comes on indiscriminately while listening to music and sometimes will read every platlist, it will sometimes skip to the next song in the middle of the first song. The voice over feature is always turned off when I check it

First, do you want voiceover on? Go to settings>General>Accessibility>Voiceover if you want to turn it off.

Next, does this only happen when your headset is connected? If so, have you tried a different headset? Has the Nano gotten wet?

The voice over has always been set to off, I want it off. I used different headphones but , there doesn't seem to be a difference.

It might have gotten wet, can that be fixed? It's dry now and it's still malfunctioning. I've had 3 nanos and they all malfuntioned after a period of time. The first two had problems with the wheel, so I thought the new model(no wheel) would be alright.

I would try restoring the nano in itunes and see if that solves the problem.

I bought a 6th generation nano in mid-October and it worked great for a month. Now the Voice-Over comes on indiscriminately. The Voice-Over is definitely turned OFF when I go to settings to try and stop the voice. It reads through the entire menu, sometimes halting and starting from the beginning again. This makes the machine unuseable and pausing the current track does not stop the Voice-Over so it keeps wearing down the battery as well. (Why no off-button Mr. Jobs?)

I tried RESTORE and the same problem occurred within minutes of using again. This is a gently-used nano -- I use it to fall asleep. It hasn't gotten wet, banged up or damaged in any way I can imagine.

Any new advice other than turning off a feature that is already off or doing yet another RESTORE would be appreciated. If there's no fix, this nano is as good as no nano at all.

Having the same problem. Started yesterday afternoon. Very frustrating!

That is just plain strange. I would say the next thing would be to call Apple tech support or make an appointment at your nearest Apple store or where you bought it.

Just wanted to say that I am experiencing the exact same problem. Resetting does not address it.

    Have you tried restoring it?

After I last posted, I let my nano sit until it did that 36-hour shut-down. Oddly, where restoring the entire system didn't help, the shutdown seems to have and the problem hasn't reoccurred. Since that's hardly a "fix" I suppose it's just a matter of time until it happens again, and I'm not willing to just not use it for 36 hours every time it malfunctions. Until there's a software fix or my nano gets closer to warranty expiration, I guess I'll go with this. And buy a non-Apple product next time around.

My nano 6th generation has the same problem and I am on my second one. I returned the first one three times for service, and they said each time they could not duplicate the problem. I spoke with service senior advisor and they sent a replacement. replacement acts the exact same way.

The battery shows three fourths charged and the problems begin about 1/2 hour into my run.

I use it with a nike + and run on the treadmill. I am ready to request a refund.
    Nothing but frustration

First, make sure voiceover is off.

Connect to your computer and view the nano in iTunes.

On the summary screen there should be a button titled "Configure Universal Access". If there is no button of this kind, install the 1.1 update for the Nano. At the summary screen, the update button should indicate that the 1.1 update is available for you.

After you update to 1.1, find the button mentioned above. Click it and make sure all the check boxes are NOT checked. Then sync.

Now see if everything works for you.

If this does not work, restore the ipod.

If none of that solves it, it sounds like the sweat you are generating from your run is causing the problem. If you have a headset with controls on it, your sweat can get into the controls and simulate a press and hold of the button which would cause the nano to speak the current track.

I have the same problem with my nano and iphone4, very frustrating for expensive electronics to be so unreliable.  Any mp3 player 1/4 the price has always worked better.  I thought Apple would be better, wrong.

I'd just like to say mine is doing the exact same thing.  Voice over comes on indiscrimanetly and sometimes fast forwards, skips to next song.  Just bought it about 3 weeks ago and have barely used it.  Very frustrating and disappointing.
