Since the iOS 4 iPad update, I have been streaming music from my iPad to my AirPort Express from Pandora. There have been no issues with this until I performed the 7.5.2 update to my AX. Now, I am experiencing pretty consistent pauses/skips when trying to listen to music.

I checked my AirPort Express logs, and the only items I'm seeing that seem to be happening pretty frequently seem to be:

- Dec 18 18:51:43 Severity:5 Rotated TKIP group key.
- Dec 18 18:44:31 Severity:4 AirTunes stream from 10.0.100.11 stopped.

Anyone have any thoughts?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

Can you please describe your home network (including all equipment that connects you to your ISP)? What wireless channels are you using?

Sure, it's a pretty basic scenario. I plug the AX directly into my cable modem. The AX serves as my wiress router for the house as well as my AirPlay/Air Tunes device for audio.

Just an update that this morning I performed a hard factory reset of the APexpress, and am still experiencing the skipping/loss of AirPlay connection issues.

Unless someone has an idea of a setting change (channel, security protocol, etc), I may have to go back to the previous APexpress firmware.

(a bit frustrating that this 7.5.2 update has basically broken the very things it says to improve.)

I discovered the same problems using AirPlay via my iPhone. Pandora and iTunes were working fine before the update; now it skips regularly. Would be very interested to know if anyone has a solution.

Tim, same issue here. It was Working ok...updated the firmware and now all my AE's skip.
I have an airport extreme in a WDS config as the main, one AX as a remote and another AX as a relay.
Maybe unrelated but I have also noticed my iPad remote app for iTunes gets wonky.....can't adjust the volume independently for the remote and relay AE's. had to reboot the iPad to fix.

I just reverted to 7.4.2 on AirPort Express and AirPort Extreme and eliminated the skipping problem. When I only reverted Express, I still had the skipping problem. I'm not technically savvy enough to know what is causing it with 7.5.2, but Apple should be made aware that AirPlay isn't working right with the firmware update.

agree this is a horrible issue - I have achieved some success by doing hard resets back to factory settings with all access points and setting up the network again, but the upgrade seems to have made airplay worse, not better

Same issues, 7.4.2 worked fine and I have reverted back, after experiencing drop outs while using the new firmware. Just works my butt...

    A few things I noticed.

The "skips" tend to be short. I would get a few in a row then it would run ok for a few minutes then happen again. I mention this because when I had skipping before and Apple support helped me with setting up a WDS configuration the skips were long(er).

The skipping almost always happens when somebody is on the wireless network. I know this likely to draw a response like "you are out of bandwidth" but I'm talking one computer on the network, checking email not downloading video.

It almost seems like the new firmware has lost the ability to handle collisions or is creating collisions.

Christmas dinner is coming up fast so I need to start looking at how to drop back to 7.4.

Interesting. I just set up a test and things to working ok for me (no skipping). Here is the test:

    AirPort Express 7.5.2
    iPad 4.2.1
Pandora (latest and greatest off iTunes)

My iPad sits about 7 feet from my AirPort Express. I am stream Pandora music through it (with the "Higher Quality Audio" option enable). My Express is set up for WPA2 PSK, Auto Channel and 802.11N (with b.g compatibility). I am also using Bridge mode since I am behind a NAT firewall already.

I know one difference between our setups right off the bat is you are using NAT (well at least I am assuming you are). Can you see any other differences in our configs? I would like to try an reproduce the problem, gather a wireless sniffer and send it to Apple via ADC.

Joe, I have noticed the same thing. The only other two devices attaching to our AX are my wife's iMac, and my MacBook Pro. And the skips seem more prevalent when these devices are on. But all they're doing is checking e-mail, browsing Facebook, etc. AND this never was an issue until this 7.5.2 update. So I hope Apple is paying attention and resolves this soon.

    Tim and other guys here,
What is the channel configuration and how have you guys configured the AirPort Express ? ( Extend/Join a network ? )
Check with a tool like iStumbler on which channel is clear and then pick that channel for your wireless network.
If you guys had your AP on Auto channel select, then it is possible after a reboot it came up on a different channel and there's more interference in this channel.

Also test your Internet speed using speedtest.net to make sure its not your Internet speed's that lagging.

    Having the SAME issues.

Everything.... And I mean to tell you EVERYTHING!,,, was humming along just fine until I updated iTunes and the Airport utility with the Extreme & Express firmware. I am a LONG time Mac guy and this one is inexcusable.

BIG TIME,,, Time OUTS!!!! It's MADDENING. I HAVE CHANGED NOTHING other than said Apple updates.

Hey Apple.... Listen UP, and Listen Close... You best fix this one AND PRONTO!

This may sound a bit obtuse out here but, Aren't software updates and firmware updates supposed to FIX bugs not CAUSE more bugs? These updates have caused nothing but problems..... And it seems no quick fix on the horizon.

    Cheers.

Help. Having the exact same problem. I have a time capsule base station and an airport express that I use both to relay the wireless network and listen to remote speakers from itunes. I updated the firmware yesterday on both the time capsule and AE and now the network constantly stops, music skips and then the problem resolves.

How did you revert to the last edition of the firmware? The update is broken.

    Thanks very much.
