To make the song play for the whole presentation add it as a soundtrack in the inspector. To have it play for one slide, just drag it onto the slide.
For what you are looking to do, you have to create multiple presentations and link them together with Hyperlinks. Make the presentation up to the group of slides you want the music over. Then have a new presentation with the group of slides you want the music over and link them together with Hyperlinks. Then, if needed, another group of slides in a third presentation with no music, again linked together with hyperlinks.
For the best playback results, have all presentation opened before starting the presentation.

I had just converted a Keynote file to PowerPoint so that I could play music across more than one slide, however I was not happy with the changes made on the way.
