Currently Being ModeratedDec 21, 2010 8:44 AM (in response to ticksg)I'm another user having issues since the update. Stats:
- iPhone 4
- iOS 4.2.1
- Rogers Network
- Toronto, ON, Canada
I can barely use my phone (for calling) in my condo, whereas before I could even use it in the elevators. Data speeds were abysmal before, but even worse now in my condo. To connect to e-mail now takes painfully long. In areas where data speeds were blazing fast, it is now very slow.
Apple and Rogers - can you talk to each other and find out what the issue is and come up with a fix? The list of unhappy customers for Rogers and Apple is growing!iPhone 4, iOS 4, Rogers Network
Currently Being ModeratedDec 21, 2010 8:55 AM (in response to j.tan)it sounds like you have a different problem..... the problem affecting us is intermittent data on 3G.... our Voice is fine.... and when we have data its fine.... its just that it goes and comes at 2 minute intervals and suchMacbook Pro 2.53 (Unibody), Macbook Pro 2.33, Mac Mini G4 1.25, Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Currently Being ModeratedDec 21, 2010 9:38 AM (in response to j.tan)I am yet another user with the same problem...
Carrier Rogers 9.0
Location Halifax NS
Phone worked perfect for a few months on ios 4.1
Problem started as soon as I upgraded to 4.21. Rogers is sending me a replacement phone so I can only hope it is still on 4.1
Man why doesnt apple just start signing for 4.1 again...argh!!!Iphone, iOS 4
Currently Being ModeratedDec 21, 2010 9:41 AM (in response to deplacent)I have this problem with the Iphone 4 on 4.2.1 Does anyone know if users with the 3gs running 4.2.1 are having the same issue? Is this problem exclusive to the iphone 4 or does the 3gs have the same problem? I have read some posts with ipad users having similar issue but odly enough they complain about wifi. My wifi works perfect?Iphone, iOS 4
Currently Being ModeratedDec 21, 2010 11:26 AM (in response to deplacent)YES Same exact issue on 3GS. Has been stated already. US AT&T.
As soon as the update 4.2.1
No problem before update after update I seriously thought my 3G radio/antenna had died until I found this post.iphone 3gs, iOS 4, 4.2.1 ATT
Currently Being ModeratedDec 21, 2010 1:25 PM (in response to dukeseb)Possibly. The voice might be a related or a completely separate issue. In any case, it started with iOS 4.2.1. Before my 3G was stable and slow. Now it is intermittent and slower.iOS 4
Currently Being ModeratedDec 21, 2010 5:54 PM (in response to Bassman7)I read the posts. But I just said that it could have to do with the carriers settings not keeping up with Apple's updates. Not being a fanboy just a lot of us got the same update and don't have the problem.G5 Quad 2.5 gh, 5gig RAM, 500 and 750 gb w/ 30" Cinema Display, Mac OS X (10.5.6), MBP, 17" C2D 2.53.(10.6.5). G4 Gigabit, dual 1.4 processor iPhone 4, 32 gig
Currently Being ModeratedDec 21, 2010 9:27 PM (in response to ticksg)Count me in - same issue:
Using an iPhone 4 on 4.2.1. Data is intermittent on 3G (can't get connection, connection times out randomly and then works again a minute later, etc.). Voice has no problems. Had Rogers re-provision my SIM - no good.
Seems to happen in certain areas more than others here in Vancouver - I couldn't reproduce it at the Apple Store, but my condo or the Seabus (or most of North Vancouver) are all good to go and can reproduce within a minute or two.
My wife has an iPhone still on 4.1. I can sit them side by side and reproduce on my phone while hers speeds away chewing up 3G data. Very frustrating.iPhone 4, iOS 4
Currently Being ModeratedDec 21, 2010 10:25 PM (in response to jason_mc)hi Jason,
My experience is almost identical to yours. Somewhere buried in this thread I had mentioned a few weeks ago when I could not duplicate this issue when visiting a store in Montreal about 1.5 miles away from my apartment and walking back from that store I still could not get the 3G to hiccup (I did not test it all the way back to my apartment).
However, I was able to duplicate the issue at the Apple store (3G signal was strong inside). I then was fortunate to get a new/refurbished phone with 4.1 and it is staying on 4.1.

Currently Being ModeratedDec 21, 2010 10:31 PM (in response to jason_mc)Has anyone here ever been able to get any issues they have had bumped to Tier 2/2.5 with Rogers?
The reason why I ask is at various times in my Internet Experiences in the 90s and the last decade I have dealt with the upper tier be it BCTEL, later Telus and then Shaw, all when I was living in Vancouver. The last few years I have never had the opportunity to speak to any higher tech levels and was wondering if they exist at Rogers. I assume they do in some form.
If someone is or has been able to, it would be interesting to bring this thread to their attention.Custom (self-built) Lian Li case/Asus X58 MB/i7 930/SSD computer, Windows 7
Currently Being ModeratedDec 21, 2010 10:46 PM (in response to dukeseb)dukeseb,
What I am saying is that when we phone up Rogers we inevitably deal with their level 1 tech support who generally are kept in the dark about larger issues that Rogers may or may not have. What I am stating, and have stated some pages ago that this "Network Controlled Fast Dormancy" technology was instituted in 4.2.1 and for some reason I think Rogers/Fido is having somewhat of a problem with this in looking at this thread.
A higher level tech support would have greater appreciation of the issue and would probably be able to liase quite closely with Rogers NOC (Network Operations Centre) people. They would then easily - hopefully! - be able to duplicate the issue that some of us are seeing.
So I was asking, how do we move this up the food chain so that this issue can be brought to the attention of those who have the power to possibly fix this. Just mentioning this to Tier 1 tech support is not the way to get this to the attention of those several levels removed (I have spoken to tech support 2-3 times about this issue)Custom (self-built) Lian Li case/Asus X58 MB/i7 930/SSD computer, Windows 7
Currently Being ModeratedDec 21, 2010 10:50 PM (in response to ticksg)im interested in that too.... but everytime i call rogers i get a new person that wants to go through the whole process of replacing or reseting settings all over again
if you know a way to contact someone in a higher level id love to know
also does anyone know if rogers has email support? i would be a lot easier to get my point across if i didnt get cut off everytime i said something by someone reading off a cue card
to this day i still have to laugh about the time i called rogers support because my sleep/wake was stuck inside and they told me i had to reset my phone to make sure it wasnt the problem

I just added myself to it but knowing Rogers I doubt any higher level tech ever looks here or there.

Currently Being ModeratedDec 21, 2010 10:55 PM (in response to ticksg)i agree I was talking to both apple and rogers about that and there official response is that the only people that ever visit the forums are people with problems. so obviously if they havent heard about it it doesnt exist
im still convinced the reason this isnt more wide spread for the following reasons
1. prolly 50-70% of rogers iphone users probably havent or dont know how to update there iphones
2. (Like my wife) only use there phones for email and texting and the occasional facebook, so they dont really notice the problem like me who lives in safari, RSS, and RDMacbook Pro 2.53 (Unibody), Macbook Pro 2.33, Mac Mini G4 1.25, Mac OS X (10.6.4)
