Whenever I have iTunes running, with or without any active playback, my Mac cannot shutdown or restart. It begins closing all open applications, then stops with the displayed message, "iTunes cancelled the Restart. Close iTunes to continue." What can I fix, move or delete to get iTunes closing automatically again?

Using iTunes 10.1.1 with Mac OSX 10.6.5.
