Q: Downloading home movies on to iPad...

I have a home movie that I would like to download from my iMac to the iPad in HD. Is this possible? I read that the video has to be 720p@30 frames/sec in H.264 format. I have no problem converting it to this, but can I watch this video afterwards on the iPad, and what application will it run from (iTunes, Movies folder, etc...)?
If so, how do you download the video from your Mac to the iPad?

Yes, you can drag it in from the desktop, and it is very simple to synch the 2 devices. It works just like synching an ipod. Good luck!

    Hi Rory!
    Depending on the program you used to convert the movie, there may be an option to share it with iTunes. Do that, then connect your iPad and synch it over. If your program does not have a sharing option, right click on it and select the option to open it in iTunes. You should be good to go. Hope this helps!

    I can just drag the movie into iTunes as well from the desktop too, right?

    I do not have an iPad yet, I want to make sure I can do this first. Is it simple to sync the two devices?

    I am looking for a better answer.

     

    My ipad is not connected to my iMac as I try to do everthing by Wifi.

     

    I found that I could drag a home video from my iMac's hard drive into itunes (on the iMac), and it appears in Movies==> home videos.  So far so good.  Provided I am connected to my home wifi, I can watch the video on my iPad (which has the same iTunes account.  It is found in Videos==>shared (select the library from my iMac).

     

    However the minute I disconnect from the WIFI, I immediately lose access to the shared videos on my iPad.  How can I make them permanently on my iPad?  I have 51gb of storage (out of 62.5gb) free on my iPad and 177gb (out of 200gb) in iCloud.  That means I would have plenty of space to store the home videos which collectively take only 4.8 gb on my hard drive.  Is there a way to download them to the iPad by WIFI?  I really don't want to physically connect by cable.

    What you are currently using is home sharing, that allows you to stream content from your computer to your iPad (or to another device/computer), you can't use it to copy content onto an iPad (home sharing can be used to copy content between computers, but not onto an iOS device).

     

    To get the videos stored in the iPad's Videos app you will have to sync it your computer, either via cable (Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes on your computer using USB - Apple Support) or via wifi (Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes using Wi-Fi - Apple Support)

    Home movies get sync'd/saved into the Photos app on iDevices

     

    Purchased/rented iTunes movie/video content gets saved to the Videos App on iDevices.

    If home videos and NOT purchased iTunes videos or movies, you could purchase one of these special iOS compatible USB flash memory drives.

    No iTunes required.

    Store your personal, home videos to this drive by plugging into a USB port on your Mac or PC, drag the movies onto the icon of the drive that mounts to your desktop, unplug the drive, plug into your iDevice and you can view/play content from directly from the drive using a free SanDisk iOS companion app from the iOS App Store on your iDevice.

     

    This would be your only other option.
