Jan 2, 2011 4:22 PM in response to treergby treerg,So I was able to proceed to the next screen, but now it is asking me to enter in credit card information. Since she is to young to have a credit card, there is no option to select none. How do I fix this? She will be using gift cards. Any help would be great. -

Try to set up an account for my son (11) -
Mar 26, 2011 3:23 AM in response to Pharaosby Katrina S.,From the store terms, they are not old enough to have their own account. There is no way to set up an account for an 11-yr-old.

Aug 22, 2011 5:21 PM in response to Katrina S.by helenfromtustin,I tried to set it up for my son (10) and when I received the message about the minimum age requirement I went back and used my own birth date (I'm over 13!) but I still receive the same "minimum age requirement"message, even with the new birth date....did anyone run into this problem and if so, how did you resolve it?

Mar 4, 2012 1:19 PM in response to treergby TraceyClarke2012,The only work around that I could find for my 8 year old son was to login w/ my Apple ID & password. This allowed for us to download games and music from iTunes & the App Store. I appreciate the the age requirement, I just wish the device would clarify the actual age (i.e. 13) when creating an account. Hope this helps.

Apr 6, 2012 12:45 AM in response to TraceyClarke2012by dfunk808,Yeah, the only way to create an Apple ID for someone under the age of 13 is to make sure you use a birth year that makes them 13 or older on the FIRST TRY. Once you have a birthday associated with an email address Apple locks them in. That email address wont' be able to get an iTunes account until it's 13th Birthday.
There is a way to create an account without associating any credit card, but you'd need an iTunes Gift card or a prepaid credit card. That's what I gave my 13 year old niece and I load up 10-50 dollars every once in a while.
The thing is, If you have a kid who's under 13, it's probably better that they don't have access to your iTunes account because they can purchase things with your attached credit card not knowing that they are racking up real money in charges. If you do let your child use your ID, make sure it's password protected and that you don't give them the password EVER. Especially now with all of the "in app purchases" it's really easy to rack up a HUGE bill buying virtual smurfberries or whatever.
PASSWORDS wont' be hacked by children if they are never told what the password is in the firstplace.
Also remember that the iTunes TOS states that kids under 13 can't have their own Apple ID. So if you are caught they can delete the account...maybe more, not really sure. This is why they "lock" birthdays to email addresses, so you can't realize that you've made a mistake and go back and make the kid's birthday 10 years later and just keep going.
