Dec 31, 2010 5:26 AM in response to Arcade99by Seagull2,Re last post. I got my ATV's mixed up. I mean, of course, I have an ATV2 which I am considering replacing with an ATV1. The info I seek is about the older ATV1. -
Dec 31, 2010 8:14 AM in response to Seagull2by steve_acp,ATV1 has a hard drive and syncs to itunes much like an Ipod. It can also stream as ATV 2.
It struggles with 1280 x 720, and there is often a delay when pressing buttons on the remote.
Benefits are that anything synced can be played without the PC / Mac on.
If you can get one cheap off ebay, may be a good buy, but the ATV2 streams perfect 1280 720, and responds instantly to the remote.
Personally, I would wait for the fix unless you se a VeRy good deal on a 40G ATV1 -
Dec 31, 2010 10:58 AM in response to Arcade99by larrythelamb,Hi,
I have got a new ATV 2 and plugged it into my sony hd ready rear projection 50inch TV and it works wonderfully except everything appears with a pink haze. I have tried 3 HDMI cables but no luck..judging from this string and others like it there is no fix??? It looks like an apple issue with some TV's or maybe I am running one of the first HDMI TV's because it is quite old??
When I went to the apple store they said they have never heard of this problem which is odd given the amount info there is on these pages...
If anyone has any joy please let me know.
Cheers

Jan 1, 2011 2:25 AM in response to Arcade99by timkiel,Probably not much consolation to you all but can confirm that a Sony KDL40-EX403U (UK version) works fine with ATV 2.
Had purchased a EX401 and swapped it out twice thinking it may have been the unit, also had two ATVs which I swapped out and also tried three or for different cables all to no avail. However returned the EX401 for a EX403 and no problems so far after about 10 hours viewing (on and off).

Jan 1, 2011 9:23 AM in response to Arcade99by tomk94,Is apple known of this problem? I read the topic and i didn't find a thing:(. Is there a kind of bug tracker? -
Jan 1, 2011 9:39 AM in response to tomk94by decsramble,Apple are aware of the problem but everyone who has it should ring their local Apple support phone lines to report it again, (I believe Apple does not respond to this forum?). I rang in November and they told me a bug had been opened in early October. It's now January and still no sign of a fix from Apple so it's worth new people raising the problem to make sure it stays on their radar. If the person who answers the phone says they dont know about the bug ask them to check with a product specialist on the Apple TV. -
Jan 1, 2011 10:11 AM in response to tomk94by tgibbs,This user forum is not a good place to convey problems to Apple. Report it on the Apple TV feedback page:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
Be sure to give them full information on brand and model of TV. -
Jan 2, 2011 2:15 AM in response to Arcade99by joacker,Dear All,
I found the same problem as the others. After a while (20-30 minutes) the screen of my Philipy 46 PFL 9704 turns "green" for a second and afterwards the colours are somehow inverted (green / blue). I have to switch the channel and back to ATV2 and then the screen is ok again. But this phenomenon happens at least every 20 minutes. This is extremly annoying. I don`t know how to solve this problem.
Any idea?
Thanks -
Jan 2, 2011 10:24 AM in response to joackerby ibombi,I have the same problem between my Phillips PFL 9704 46' and my new APT2.

Jan 3, 2011 3:40 AM in response to ibombiby Coldfire,This has to be single biggest New Year resolution for Apple - fix this colour problem that is plaguing so many popular TV brands! -

Jan 4, 2011 4:02 AM in response to nosensby ILiOS324,Same problem with a Philips 9664. This is really annoying! At least it can be solved by switching inputs on the TV, but sometimes I get an HDCP error when playing iTunes HD content, and I'm sure it is connected to the same issue.
Hope to hear something from Apple on this! (already submitted a bug report). -
Jan 4, 2011 4:30 AM in response to Arcade99by Oliver Gruber,I don't know if I'm affected by the same issue you are discussing in this thread (I get picture dropouts, but not an inverted picture), but here's what my problem is:
Every once in a while (5 seconds or 5 hours in between, very random), the picture goes black for just a split second (once or twice it was for a whole one or two seconds, but mostly it's very quick, barely noticeable), and then returning to normal (NOT an inverted/green/magenta picture). Sometimes it's only the upper half or only the upper right corner of the picture. This happens also when in the main menu, so it's not a streaming/network problem.
My Apple TV is connected to a Sony HDMI receiver, which then outputs to a Sony Bravia TV (KDL-40V4000). My PS3 is also connected to the receiver, but shows no problems. Of course, I already tried switching cables and inputs, to no avail.
Is this the same issue you all are seeing or might this be something different? -
Jan 4, 2011 4:48 AM in response to Oliver Gruberby ready2run,This is probably part of the same issue. We're seeing this 'blink' at the start or end of the inverse video 'period'. I also noticed that when a YouTube video is paused, the reverse video period becomes very short. Not any less annoying but possibly an observation that may help Apple diagnose the issue.
A related question: The ATV2 uses 720p and there seems to be no way to force it to 1080p. The ATV1 has this configuration option, and works fine at HD on the Sony Bravia 40". Any hints?

My ATV has the green/magenta image problem when I use it with a Philips 56 PFL 9954.
When it is connected to my Philips 32 PFL 7605, the screen goes just black for half a second or so, like you describe.
Annoyingly though, sometimes the sound is missing after the 'black out' and can be restored only in the way the green/magenta image can be restored to normal (changing HDMI inputs back and forth or sending the ATV to sleep and waking it up again).
