The point is, however, that you need to have a computer switched on for all these workarounds to work. With Airprint to a AP compatible printer, then you print directly to it. No need for PCs or Macs to be switched on. iPhone 3GS 32Gb iOS 4.2.1, iPad 32Gb 3G iOS 4.2.1

It would be very nice if I could print to any printer on my network.IMAC 24" 3.06 GHz 4 GB, Mac OS X (10.6.5), G Tech Q Drive, G Tech G Drive, 3 USB Hubs, USB to Serial Adapter.

* Printopia and
Printopia is Mac-only while Fingerprint is according to their website also available for Windows.
Fingerprint basically seems to use the method that also the Activator app provides (with some enhancements), while Printopia works different but also offers to print to your Mac or your dropbox.
If you are seeking just for a method to print from iOS devices to a printer connected to your Mac, the method described in the above mentioned link would suffice.MacBook Pro 15,4" (Sep 2009);, Mac OS X (10.6.6), iMac G5 20"; iPad 64GB, iPhone 3GS 32 GB, iPod 3G, iPod 5.5G, iPod Shuffle

I've trying all three to see what I like best.
Printopia has some additional options, and looks like it will run with no windows open all the time.
the AirPrint Activator is also very transparent, but less options.
thanks again.Mac Pro- 2x2.26 Quad-Core, Mac OS X (10.6.6), 6 gig RAM- 30" monitor

That's, of course, no problem is you have a server on your network. In the office/work environment, where a server is on 24/7 this is not an issue.
