I hooked up my ATV Sunday to my Sony television and it would show up for a second and then the screen would go black. I would reboot the device by unplugging it and replugging it in. The ATV would show up and then disappear. I then unplugged everything and let it sit for 10 minutes and plugged it back in and it worked fine. I watched a whole movie by airplaying it from my ipad and then went to bed.

Monday night i switched over to the ATV again and the screen was black. I hit the menu button to get the screen to come on. And nothing. I can't tell if the ATV is having a hard time waking up or the HDMI is not delivering the source. I unplugged everything and the ATV came on for a second and then the screen went to black.

At this point I can't even get the screen to come on at all. Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Can you see if the ATV is turning on? Is it responding to the remote? Is there audio when you are navigating with the remote?

Have you tried setting the sleep to never? Have you tried another HDMI cable?

It sounds like there's something going wrong in the transfer. It's responding fine, what I meant by the audio is if you hear the clicks when navigating the menu (even though you can't see it, hearing that, by pressing the arrows on the remote, will narrow down the possibility of it being an ATV problem)

Have you tried unplugging, waiting 10 secs, and then rebooting? Do that, see if it works and then try setting the sleep.

    Hi,
Have you reset the ATV2?... if not try this first. Be sure it has the latest software. Check the settings on your TV.......they must be able to accept 720p and 480p to make the image ATV2 sends. Try another HDMI component on the input you will use for ATV2 to see if it is working. finally if the ATV2 still doesn't work I would do a restore to factory settings (in the ATV2 manual. Failing this take it to the genius bar at your local Apple Store and they will fix or replace it one the spot.
    Hope this helps. Cheers

I have a Sony Bravia also. SAME PROBLEM! The intro loads..then when the main menu loads..the screen goes blank..but I can hear the clicking between menu items when I use the remote.

I've gone through all the Sony HDMI settings..changed them over and over..multiple settings and have swapped HDMI cable over several HDMI ports.

    Nothing.

I managed to fix my TV2 problems by connecting the device to my Mac with a micro-USB cable and performing a restore to factory settings. If you try this, make sure you don't plug the power cable into the TV when it's connected to iTunes. iTunes wont recognize it if you do.
