Q: HDMI Handshake problems every 20 - 30 minutes - Color Inversion Issue

Dear all,

I used the old ATV for a long time and never had problems with it. Yesterday my new ATV 2 arrived. The setup was very easy but after a few minutes a problem with HDMI Handshake occurred and repeats at least every 20-30 minutes:

I get a green screen for one or two seconds and then the picture appears again with some kind of inverted colors.

I use a Philips 40 inch 7664 LED LCD with the newest firmware installed.

Any idea what I could to to fix this issue?

Thanks

No, it is not a codec issue. HDMI/HDCP is a standard and in principle any signal source that conforms to the standard should be able to work with any display that does so. However, it is a very complicated standard involving encryption and complex handshaking and key exchange, so it is not that uncommon to observe incompatibility between HDMI devices that nominally conform to the same standard. For example, there is a thread on the Roku forum about HDMI problems with some displays that date back a good two years and still haven't been resolved. Hopefully, Apple will be able to come up for a solution to this one more quickly, but it probably isn't going to happen overnight.

Have this problem on a 37" Philips with Ambilight bought in December 2008 (location - Spain.) Apple TV and Philips TV both running latest software. Colors invert after 30 seconds or 5 minutes. Googling led here.

Came to check this thread because I just read new iOS 4.3 is in beta. Hoping someone in the developer program who can reproduce this problem applies the patch to their Apple TV and lets us all know if it fixes it!

Received my Appletv a few days ago ( bought in Germany)
Had the same problem on a philips 32PFL8404H from 2009.
Only just after 5 minutes the problems with my Appletv 2 started.( green screen)
Downloaded today new firmware from the philips website ( dated 2010-08-25) and this solved
    the problem.

I haven't tested this myself, but apparently it does not fix the issue.

I have recently filed a bug report at http://bugreport.apple.com and it has been marked as a known issue with ID #8511726.

I would urge everyone posting in this thread to do the same. The more "votes" an issue gets, the more likely it will be fixed (quickly) by Apple.

I have a 40pfl8664h (2009) and downloaded the last available update (July 2010). It seems that I see new messages about hdcp error (when I start watching something else on the screen via another hdmi source) but I still have the greenish screen of death after some minutes of watching on the appletv.
So unless there is another update soon from apple or philips mo solution here !!!!

Strange! Same TV and same firmware. Still had the problem (mine went back to Apple by the way). So don`t be to optimistic, it will occur again. Sorry for that.

Is there anybody (developers) who tried to solve this problem with the iOS 4.3?

I will install it now on my apple TV and I will give a feedback if the problem is solved...

my posting from 13.01.2011 was deleted by the Apple Discussions Staff... Nice to know, that Apple is reading this thread but don't answer it....

...only after a long time period - I will give a feedback.

A few days ago someone posted that he had fixed the problem by redirecting the signal through his receiver. I've tried a cheaper solution by using a two port hdmi switch between atv2 an the tv. It looks like this is successfull. No problem now for nearly 2 hours... I'm now making a longer test. But I'm very hopefull...
