Mail no longer makes a sound when new email arrives. The sound I use is shows up in Preferences > General > *New messages sound* and when I select it there, it plays the sound. But yet when new email arrives there is no sound. Any ideas? Thanks

Sometimes this happens with Imap accounts if Mail > Preferences > Advanced tab > "use IDLE command if the server supports it. Just uncheck and see if that helps.

I have just been experiencing the same issue. I was testing the problem by sending myself an email from my iPad. Each time I sent an email I would receive it okay, but without sound. Sending from my Mac to myself worked fine on both the outgoing and the incoming.

This is the crazy part.... My iPad was set to mute when I sent the emails, and when I set the mute switch to off the sound incoming mail sound played just fine on my Mac. I tested this about a dozen time and each time it worked without fail.

    Hi there,

Having the same "no sound" for new e-mail. I've tried the solutions shown in this thread, and no success. I have the "outgoing" sound, but not "new". Any ideas please?
