There are subtitles for certain films but its up to the film producers to embed them into the video stream. Its not an "Apple choice" but a film distributors choice.iMac 27", MacBook Pro 15", iPhone 3GS, iPod Nano, Mac OS X (10.6.5), Time Machine - just say no.
I don´t know if this help but it works for me.
You give a name to the movie for exemple "MOVIE.avi" then you give the same name to the subtitles "MOVIE.srt", then you play it with Quick Time.
Then on Quick Time you choose to share it with iTunes.
When it finish and you sync iTunes with iPad the movie had subtitles.
Hope that helps you.iPad, iOS 4
Please help as I'm deaf and this is the first time that I have used an Apple product...
I've just purchased an ipad and have downloaded the films 'leon' and 'funny face'. Is there no way to get subtitles on these? I've turned on 'closed captions' in the main settings menu.
I'm also a bit of a luddite, so the post above about quick player and naming things doesn't make sense to me I'm afraid!
Please say that there is a way.... I bought this specifically to operate as a reader and to watch films on long journeys etc.Ipad
Very few production companies are subtitling streaming media or movies downloaded from sites like iTunes or Amazon. It's a major disappointed and government will probably force them to start including subtitling.Mini x2, iPhone 3G, iPhone4, Air, iPad, Mac OS X (10.6.6)
ah thanks Tamara
I thought it was something that I was doing wrong. That is a huge disappointment - lets hope it changes soon. Even for 'normal' hearers, subtitles are a welcome addition if you are in a noisy environment such as a plane or train.
fingers crossed - I shall just have to live with the disappointment for the time being.Ipad
My husband is hearing impaired and he gets frustrated that there are no subtitles. It makes things like streaming Netflix, Hulu, iTunes, etc useless to him.Mini x2, iPhone 3G, iPhone4, Air, iPad, Mac OS X (10.6.6)
For Netflix on apple tv:
