Missing one song!

Hello. Last night as I was syncing my iTunes I noticed that I have 1873 songs under my music library and it shows that I have 1873 songs under the music tab when my iPod is plugged in as well. Sounds great right. Wrong. Once I turn on my iPod and look at the songs there is only 1872. I've gotten the songs with the exclamation point and I've located them before and all that good stuff but it is nothing like that. They are showing they are all there on the computer but there is still one song missing on my iPod. I know this probably sounds stupid but it drives me absolutely INSANE! Can anyone give me any insight to what the problem may be?

    I Guess there could be two reasons.
    One of the songs is still "not found".
    One of the songs does not have the tick box to the left of name check.

    Do you know which is the missing track.
    If not, you can use a playlist to collect dead tracks.
    Create new regular playlist – Playlist1
    Select whole library and drag to Playlist1
    Create new Smart Playlist with the rule: Playlist is not Playlist1
    Live updating checked – after you run it, uncheck live updating or you may not be able to delete tracks.
    This playlist should contain all the dead tracks

    You could use a similar trick to discover unchecked songs.
    Make a smart playlist containing ticked songs, there is a tick box for this when you create a smart play list.
    Then create another smart playlist that contains songs not in the first playlist.

    You haven't told us which iPod model you have so I don't know which menu you need to try, but usually it's in Settings/General/About>songs. That's the place to confirm how many songs are on your iPod.

    Here are two examples of why you may be seeing the wrong number of songs:
    1.) on an iPod Classic if you start the iPod playing in shuffle mode and look at the *Now Playing* screen at the 1 of X figure (1 song of the total songs it is going to play in this list), that will exclude any songs that are set for *Skip on shuffle.* So the total song count would be for songs that will be played, not all songs. Could that be why you're missing a song?
    2.) on my iPod Touch it has a Shuffle option at the top of the Songs menu and if I start it playing using that shuffle button it tells me there are 332 songs. On the *Now Playing* screen I can turn off the shuffle, but the total song count still says 332. But the About says there are 336 songs. If I return to the Songs menu and start a song (not on shuffle) the display will show 336 songs, that is, all of them.

    Even if you think you have no songs set for *Skip on shufle,* there may be one.

    However, I don't think there was a 30GB Classic, so it's probably a 5th generation iPod, but I think the menu system is the same as the Classic though.

    The other thing is - were you playing the iPod in Shuffle mode, because if you were not, then this is not the problem.

    So go to Settings/General/About>songs and see how many songs it says. That's the _total songs on the iPod._

    Now start a song playing in Shuffle mode. On the *Now Playing* screen, under the songs details, is there a 1 of X showing? (This is where I'm unfamiliar with the 5th Gen display.) If you can see the *1 of X,* what is the X number? X is the _total songs in the shuffle playlist,_ in other words, only the songs that will play in shuffle mode. In theory, it should be the same as the _total songs on the iPod._ If it's one less - there's your problem.

    If that test shows that a song is set to *skip on shuffle,* that's why you saw a discrepancy in the total number of songs. How you fix it depends on how many songs you have in total and how much work you're prepared to do to find it.

    Providing you use Sync to manage your ipod, the simplest method is to select every song in your iTunes Library and then choose *Get Info/Options.* (Answer yes to the multiple items question) and then look for the *Skip when shuffling* drop-down box. Even if it says No in the box, change it to yes and then back to No and click okay. Once you've done that, connect and Sync your iPod to make the changes on the iPod.

    Then simply do that test again to check that the problem is fixed.

    The alternative method is to go through the songs in your library and check them individually until you find the one that is causing the issue. (Could be a long job!)
