Dec 16, 2010 3:07 AM in response to Sewer Sleuthby Spikeyg,I had this problem as well, only noticed it happening a couple of weeks ago, but it seems to stop when i swith the bluetooth off on my iphone (4.2.1) - so in my case it seems (at the moment anyway) to be the iphone that was interfering.
for info keyboard and track pad are set to favourites and have removed ipad and iphone from bluetooth paired devices. -
Jan 26, 2011 1:06 AM in response to iVainby jmooseman,27" imac iI had same problem
I had put cheap batteries in and discovered that the keyboard eats these at a much faster rate than high quality ones. The batt meter would not even show. When changed to quality Batts keyboard works fine all the time. Can,t explain why this would be but no problems at all with good quality duracell. -
Jan 27, 2011 6:48 AM in response to jmoosemanby WilsonLaidlaw,Exactly the same problem for me with Magic Trackpad on 2007 iMac. It was fine until batteries went flat and had to be replaced. Replaced with the same make/model (Panasonic Evoia long life). Battery is showing as 99% but now connection keeps dropping. Will not show up when you go to Bluetooth Set up Assistant, so cannot designate as favourite but it will reconnect by itself, sometimes automatically eventually and sometimes, you have to switch the Trackpad off and on again. I do not want to switch on "wake from Bluetooth" as this iMac is beside my bed and with "wake from Bluetooth" enabled, would wake at random intervals during night.

Oct 1, 2011 4:06 AM in response to Spikeygby Simon Strandgaard,I also had this problem. The solution for me was to move my iPhone 50 centimeters away from the Magic Trackpad, so there is less interference.

Dec 13, 2011 7:50 PM in response to iVainby David Schwab,This just started happening to me. I never had any problem at all. Turned out it was my son's MacBook Pro. He doesn't have any Blutooth peripherals, but his Blutooth was on. I had him shut it off and all is well.
I just discovered this now from reading comments in this thread about the iPhone doing it.

Jan 7, 2012 1:42 AM in response to iVainby CarltonBanks, yep im having same issue on my brand new 2011 i5 27 inch imac.
mouse works fine and always stays connected
bluetooth wireless keyboard that came with the imac keeps losing connection thoughout the day.
i do have an ipad, iphone and macbook pro also sitting on the same desk, not sure if that interferes
but it really shouldnt. u know.
it should just work..
idk what to do. i have usb windows keyboard mouse plugged in for the time being but hate using this black keyboard after getting used to the 'chicket' keys

Jan 7, 2012 7:24 AM in response to CarltonBanksby David Schwab,Mine stopped doing it few days after my last post. It hasn't done it again since. The only thing new was I changed the batteries, but the ones that were in there read fine on my meter. I had rechargibles in there, and even thoough it shows 75% charge, the keyboard just stopped working. The new batteries seem to have fixed it, but it might have been unrelated.

Jan 21, 2012 9:47 PM in response to iVainby jonelb,I've had this problem for the first time since installing a new 27" iMac and bluetooth magic mouse and keyboard 3 weeks ago. I lose connection with keyboard only and it comes back by itself with 15 seconds. I have a habit of slamming my finger on the last letter of a sentence when typing and I noticed that it seemed to lose connection only when I did this. So I tested it with a few good ring finger slams and it lost connection every time. (Not hitting it real hard mind you) This made me think it is a hardware problem with the new keyboard - so I'm trying out the old bluetooth keyboard I had with my previous iMac and there are no problems so far.

Jan 21, 2012 9:49 PM in response to jonelbby CarltonBanks, this issue was resolved for me. I changed the battery and the issue stopped happening. I changed the batteries that came with the keyboard and the keyboard with the batteries was only was about 1 week out of the box.
but changed the batteries and no issues now. lol

Mar 3, 2012 9:43 AM in response to Spikeygby keysgirl,This fixed it for me! Ages ago I had paired it with my phone and did not remember so guess it has been sporadically connecting with my phone. That explains why I never had a problem with the trackpad.
For me it would take about a dozen attempts to reconnect before it would work so I guess the iPhone was hogging it. I think this also explains why out of the blue my iPhone freaked out the other day and I could not get the iphone keyboard to appear on the phone. I did a factory reset but now I winder if it wasn't connected to the Bluetooth keyboard. That would have saved some hassle...
Anyway, thanks!

Apr 9, 2012 9:02 AM in response to iVainby anthonymann,Hi I to had this problem. Looked at a variety of problems. my focus was on the keypad /batteries and some possible incorrect setting on the computers bluetooth connection. In the end it transpired that although my keyboard batteries was !00% the problem lay with my track pad, ps i have imac with the alluminium kepad and trackpad, anyway i noticed battery was low on the trackpad, changed it and hey presto everything was ok. why this should have affected the keypad in the way it did - well i can guess, so the solution may be not just changing the batteries on the keypad but on other peripheral devices connected to the computer by bluetooth. The computer seems to target the keypad first. makes no sense but has worked for me.
love and kisses

Apr 20, 2014 10:32 AM in response to Spikeygby pete1250,Same problem here. I've gone back into the pages and deleted the varies bits and bobs that I had connected up. It still does the dropping out thing. I've just switched off the magic mouse and will see if that gives me more 'in wi fi contact time'.
Thinking about it, when I first got this sytem there was no drop out at all which makes me think that the more I 'clag' on to the system the more difficult it gets for the iMac 27 to see my keyboard. Apple should make this clearer in their user manuals instead of trying to put across that their system it is the be all and end all of wi fi connections.
Since I've disconnected all the bits and bobs the keyboard has stayed wi fi'ed in. However I thought that Apple was supposed to take all these extra peripherals in it's stride. It doesn't seem to be the case. Convenience it seems is not that convenient!
It's been fifteen minutes now since the last drop out...TOO much wi fi connected kit seems to be the problem then! Less is best it seems!

Jun 30, 2015 5:56 AM in response to pete1250by CairnApps,Is it possible that the cheap Radio Shack Batteries are actually physically shorter than the Duracells? I noticed that RS batteries would shift slightly in the case when I would lift it off the desk and that the Duracells don't do that. I wonder if the impact of my fingers on the keyboard was causing the RS batteries to bounce slightly, intermittently dropping the electrical connection. Anyway, replacing the batteries with the brand name ones seems to have done the trick.
