I need to convert .swf files to .mov files, or to mpegs. I've downloaded every possible converter for mac out there, and none recognize my .swf files. Can't import them. SWFs remain greyed out.

has anybody had this problem?

Is there some conflict that's not allowing this?

Any better solutions?

Mac Pro 8-Core, Mac OS X (10.6.4), FCP 7.02

We see inquiries about SWF often so try searching the forum.

The most common issue is simply the user not understanding that the SWF packaging may not contain any video or audio at all, just instructions for vector construction and movement or scripting for interactivity. FCP doesn't understand the SWF format directly for lots of reasons but it's kind of sowing your Macintosh a vinyl LP and wondering why iTunes can't import it; it's audio, what's the big deal?
The easiest way to extract video from SWF is to have the creator of the project export the video for you from his system.
If you cannot do that, you may need to gain access to one of the many SWF programming applications. Big guns like After Effects can recreate most SWF vector animation, but not all. I've never tried to bring SWF into Motion, have you?

I have the same quest. And yes, I'm aware that SWF is vector and contains no video. I made an animation using Flash 5 many years ago (digitally speaking, "many"). Now I need to convert this ONE SWF to .mov. I still own Flash 5 but I can no longer load it onto my newer PC. And I don't want to buy yet another application for one job. I own Final Cut Express, too; I'm trying to import my animation to FCE. It seems like there should be some kind of video capture app that could do this; I can run the SWF in Firefox just fine, so I can "see" it.

It's not the best solution but you could have a look at recording your screen- some of the apps are quite extensive and I have actually seen juniors use them to make encodes in real-time quicker than normal.. iShowU HD is one, I'm sure you can find loads on the net.

hi, I have the same problem. I have been looking for a good swf to mov converter for windows. But most of software just can convert flv video. At last I choose doremisoft swf to mov converter for mac you mentioned. It's for mac os. It has no time limit, but has a watermark on the upper left corner of the output Mov video. this doremisoft really good for mac os. I convert swf to mov on my mac computer, then share to my pc.  I still want to use a good swf converter for windows. Does anyone know such a program?

I've ever tried to play SWF files on my iPad, but it can not recognize SWF file. So I searched swf to video converter in google and finally got this windows swf to mov mp4 avi etc converter. It converts swf to most popular video formats.

Besides, two free swf to mp4 converters may help:

    1. Free online service YouConvertIt

    2. Handbrake

Search for the Apple websites, you will know that flash swf video is not accepted by apple products. So if you want to play swf video to Mac Pro 8-Core, Mac OS X (10.6.4), FCP 7.02, you need convert swf to their products accepted video format like converting swf to mov ,mp4,mpg,etc. For search for the market, it used very widely.

You can see this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0mOYcaHeiY, I have tried, It can import swf file. I think you can have a try. If this does not work to you, you can get a screen capture software to record your swf video to save as mov file. Good luck.

I've had to do this myself. The simplest way to do it is to use a screencapture program like Jing (Free), which exports to a (video) swf, or SnagIt which will get you the avi or mov options, but is a paid program. The trial might do the trick if you only need to do this once. Check out techsmith's website, http://bit.ly/1nMcgiV for more details.
