My flash drive was working perfectly on both computers. The last time I erased it using Disk Utility, I got the message that the procedure could not be completed because there was no device (I don't remember the exact wording of the message). Since then the flash drive does not appear on either of my computers when I plug it into the USB ports. Any suggestions on what might be the problem?

Thanks.

If it is not seen by either machine and you can't mount it manually in Disk utility, I'd say it's possible that the flash drive is dead. I don't know what the average life expectancy is for those; if you have a friend with a computer, you might want to check it there, but I'm guessing it's time to have it replaced.

What brand is it - if it was real cheap, it was probably meant to be "disposable".

I don't have any flash drives (only external hard drives) - take a look at this:

I'd trust the Lexar and SanDisk (both good quality)...
