Q: Custom Signature

I've regularly seen "custom" signatures by some of the regulars - handwriting, bouncing smileys, moving tiger, etc - and decided I'd like to have one. So, I designed one yesterday and, as a test, added it to a post. When I checked about 20 minutes later, it had disappeared; instead, it is showing a large grey lock:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2743080

So, is it permitted to have a signature or not? Mine was my name in a fancy multi-colored font with shadow. Or is there a minimum age/points/whatever required?

+I am not sure where I posted it but it is not a Users Tip.+

+Most Likely it is in this forum but it may well be in the one other place I post.+

I found it and posted the link.

    Hi,

As far as I can see the CSS is s mixture of <div>s and <table> and it's various sub item tags.

Some of it is Jive generated

    However this line ...

    <tr valign="top" class="jive-odd">

... determines whether the row the post is in is Blue or white. (class="jive-odd" means odd is the pale blue)

The Character coding is UTF-8 (Not that it will make any difference to the colour of each post)

In Firefox > View Menu > Page Style > No Style actually removes all of the the formatting (very messy)

In the Firefox Preferences > Content icon do you have any Colours set in the Font and Colours section ? There is a Button.

    Picture as it is quicker
    Picture 6

Is the Allowance box ticked or Not ?
I find it might not be that as it also "removes" the Apple navigation bar (It is Background Coloured with then white Text on it) and the slight grey around the right hand Search, Welcome, Unresolved Questions and Top Users Panels.
(It has basic layout but looks very crude/naive)

I think there is a way to Add your Own CSS that then show up under Styles.
I believe these can be short items (some people make it show posts marked as New in Red rather that trying to spot the blue and half blue dots)
However I have never done this and don't know really where to start.

    Hi Barbara,

Various bit of HTML are in fact containers on the page for items or specific things to be shown.

The <img src=".... > tag is one like that.

The bit after the equals sign is the address of what to put in it.
This can be a straight path (for a Web Site say) or a URL to an Off site location.

In this case Pica are kept Off site so if they are removed at that end they don't show up here.
(depending on the site where they were held you may get a Removed Message from them in return - Flickr also gives a "Removed" replacement)

The box in FF has always been ticked. I can find the style columns etc in the script debugger, but not the line you are referring to.

Under Styles the background color is struck through:

    body
    +background: white;+
+font: normal normal normal 12px/normal 'Lucida Grande', Geneva, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif;+
    +margin: 0px;+
    +padding: 0px;+
    +text-align: left;+
    images.apple.com/support/css/base_new.css:78
    body
    +background color: white;+
    +color: #333;+
+font: normal normal normal 12px/18px 'Lucida Grande', 'Lucida Sans Unicode', Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif;+
    images.apple.com/support/css/base_new.css:2
    +html, body, div,+

Isn't that what usually happens (at least with this particular ad hoc group) As long as it's amusing while still informative, I think all is well - I'm still in the learning process with this and will try a new creation later. One problem is that I'm using an app which came as part of a paid one; the added part though requires either payment or you have to deal with a watermark "trial" splashed all over the page. So, I'm not going to pay until I figure out if I like it enough to pay $50, but I keep having to wipe the watermark which is proving to be almost impossible to detect on a transparent background. Can't see it until I actually use it...

And yes, of course it makes sense that the pic is being kept elsewhere - I just didn't know that. But I do now!

    Hi,

Line 679 on the Thread I used to do this with.
It was the second poster (first Reply) in the thread I was look at.

In this post Barbara as fist Poster (I messed up the pic confusing the two of you)
    is Even (White).

However you can see the section it is in (The bit that puts the Profile Link on the User Posting and their Location) just before another table contains the post itself).

    Hi Barbara,

I think I must be on an Inbetween thing then.

I had Skitch before it added the Plus features (Paid for bits)
As a Registered User the Preferences > Drawing pane shows me the the WaterMark feature is now a Plus add-on, but does not place one there.

Now I am confused. But since I haven't changed anything (except to use the combo updater to 10.6.6) I guess I'll just wait for it to get back to normal, as it does for LS.

I should have been more specific - I was not referring to Skitch with the Watermark - I was referring to an application called "Art Text" which I was allowed to download along with my purchase of Swift Publisher (both by belightsoft.com). It's the Art Text window that has the watermark; visible with a white background, but almost invisible on a transparent background.

I take it when you mentioned my "instructions" of using Skitch to took it as a general method ?

Or are you grabbing pics with one App and then Dragging them to Skitch ?

If the Sig is created in this Art Text why not just get Skitch to grab the view you see rather than the file it creates ?

And how, pray tell, do I grab the view only - I think I've tried it every which way: create first in Art Text, then either import in Skitch, or grab it, or drag it over...

Well, I've been playing with this Art Text now for a while and decided that it's kinda cool, but not $50 worth of cool... I tried all sorts of tricks to get rid of the watermark without success (even erasing in other apps including Skitch - it would still stubbornly show a shadow) until this final one:

    sig5

    too much or acceptable/cool?
