My Mail app will not quit. The "quit mail" is grey, and I have tried to force quit many times. This app will NOT quit. I have deleted both of my email accounts on Mail, and now it won't let me add a new account... Please help!!

open the 'Terminal' app and type "killall Mail". Once it is quit, try dragging to the desktop and relaunching it.

Hi - Is there a similar command I can use to make my Text Edit app quit? (I tried "killall Text Edit," but nothing happened. It was worth a try!)

Like this person's Mail app, I get a greyed out "quit Text Edit." My computer won't shut down using the drop down menu, as a result; I have to manually shut it down. Thanks!

This seems to be a common problem. Generally speaking, either Force-Quit or killall is NOT a good way to quit a program, especially a native Apple program. But my Mail will NEVER quit (I am using 10.8.2) unless I force, and of course this will stop the shutdown procedure, which is annoying enough.

My impression is that 10.8 was released too early - there are interesting features, but if SW does not work...
