Q: in-ear headphones w remote and mic

Hi All,
I bought the in-ear headphones w/ mic 6 months ago and I have LOVED them. However, shortly after the iOS 4 update, they have stopped working (other than sound). Is it the iOS 4 update that is causing the problem? Now all I can do is listen to sound coming out of them. Before, I could use all the functions – up, down, skip, replay, microphone – now none of these functions work. Can anyone please tell me what they think I should do or if I pressed something wrong in settings? Also, if I need to send them back to Apple, how do I do that? The website won't accept the UPC/SN of them for repair/return. Please help me, I am so sad I don't want to spend another 80 bucks.

Thank you very much, Margo

Got the same problem here. (I've checked for lint).
I've even opened up my iPhone to change the jack... no luck... must be a software issue because its definitely not a hardware issue.

    iPhone 3GS - Jailbroken.

My problem was not the software update, but instead the iPhone 4. It seems tolerances between the 3.5 mm jack on the headphones and the iPhone 4 were large enough to cause problems. Genius Bar replaced the headphones and now function properly - until I go for a long run and the headphones (I'm actually assuming the volume/track control) gets damp and then it causes the iPhone to go crazy - skip ahead in track, go to next track, play random tracks, initiate voice command. I've isolated down to headphones because when I unplug and play through built in speakers, no problems. Also, this happened with the original headphones.

    Hi,

I have the same problem.. mic works but +/- and centre button not working. I have had this problem with my 3GS iPhone for some time (not sure if it started after iOS4 upgrade) with 2 sets of headphones. Now I've just got a new iPhone 4 with new head phones straight out of the box with the same problem.. I've checked both phones and no lint. It's seems like its either a software/hardware problem. Apple, help please!!
