Jim-Bass Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)
I have just installed Logic Studio and all the updates relating to it. All works except Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1 which will not open. I get the following dialogue box:
"Soundtrack Pro cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Soundtrack Pro works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X." ...and the option to send a report to Apple (did that).

I put the Logic Studio install disc in but Soundtrack Pro is dimmed out.

Any ideas?

iMac Quad Core, Mac OS X (10.6.6), 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5

Try digitalrebellion.com's FCS Maintenance pack to trash the STP preferences. If that doesn't work. Use it to selectively remove STP and reinstall it. Note, you don't have to pull off the audio samples. that's where the time is in installation. See if those things work.

I'm having exactly the same problem. I heard that this could be a compatability issue with iLife '11? - Surely Apple wouldn't make such a schoolboy error - would they?

a-ha, I thought it might be an issue with 10.6.6 or something.

I am having this problem as well. The system is a brand new iMac, and I mean brand new, with just the latest OS and the bundled iLife '11 installed. I literally brought my new computer home, set it up, installed Logic Studio 9, and immediately Soundtrack Pro fails to start every time with this same error message. It is very disappointing, especially since there seems to have been no indication from Apple that they are working on the problem.

same here, my iMac Quad is brand new - set it up, updated to 10.6.6, installed Logic and Soundtrack won't open. It must be a problem, let's hope APPLE is reading this. Have you guys sent the error report to Apple? make sure you do, they need to know this. It must be 10.6.6 I think.

NLEdit, are you still on 10.6.5? And you have Logic Studio? Just trying to narrow down the culprit here

Has anyone pulled off iLife 11 and reinstalled the logic package?

I have 10.6.6 on one machine with no issue, but no logic or iLife 11. Another machine i just upped to 10.6.6, and haven't tested. It has logic but no ILife at all. The other machines still have 10.6.5.
Our STP is installed as part of FCSVand not from the Logic package.

Try removing iLife and the reinstalling STP

Okay, I just tried the one machine that has 10.6.6 installed. (I did it remotely using Logmein on the iPhone, by the way.) Soundtrack pro opens just fine. Note that iLife 11 is not installed on this machine, though logic is.

Thanks NLEdit. There must be an issue of some sort ... it can't be coincidence that others have the same issue as me. I think the others with the problem have a new Quad Core iMac, like me. I'm reluctant to pull iLife off just to test this ... even if it is the culprit then Apple will still have to do something. I think Apple should do the full troubleshooting and come up with the solution.

to those with the problem: I have a PreSonus Audio Interface, and a number of thrid party plug ins like Amplitube. I don't suppose you have these do you? I've tried emptying the components folder with no luck.

Well, actually it can be a coincidence. We're not even sure that the issues the way they are described are identical. Note the thousands and thousands of users having two or three pop-up with an issue does not necessarily indicate a major problem. So right now it's all conjecture. What we want to do is arrive at a solution the matter what that is. That's what's really important here.

These sorts of things are always caused by some sort of a change. The way we traced the problem is by backtracking and removing or changing back anything that's been changed recently. That's the only way that we can arrive at some sort of resolution. Uninstalling and reinstalling software in this environment is very easy. Especially if one uses applications like digitalrebellion.com's Final Cut Studio maintenance pack, or more general application like CleanApp. reinstalling soundtrack Pro is actually quick and easy if one leaves the sound samples alone.

If you right click on the Install Logic Studio shortcut and choose "Show Original", it should show you the hidden installer folder. Inside the Packages folder you should find "PSTSharedA.pkg" and "ProAppsMetadataSupport.pkg". Try installing both of these package installers and see if that fixes it. This is what worked for me.

    Good Luck!

Scooter1029 you legend, you've done it! It works! It would have taken weeks to find out that without Apple advising it ... shouldn't really have to be done, but no worries, it works.

I hope the other users with the issue are reading this.

Scooter, you are at least 2 for 2! Your suggestion fixed the problem on my new iMac as well. Thank you!
