Q: Logic board upgrade

Just a wondering! Is there ANY aftermarket boards for the powerbook G4? I want to mod/fit it with a intel processor. Or does apple forbid other companies to make aftermarket boards to fit macs? the current board is only a 667ghz and i just want to install leopard or snow leopard. any suggestions?
Thank you a head of time!

powerbook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Your 667MHz Powerbook is one of the Titanium models, not an Aluminum one. There are no aftermarket logic boards available for any Apple notebook computer, and there is no way to put an Intel processor into it.

If it has a DVI video-out port, you can +in theory+ replace its logic board with one from an 800MHz, 867MHz or 1GHz Titanium DVI, though you will also need to add the second fan that each of those models has in addition to the one fan in your 667. This is emphatically not a financially worthwhile thing to do in such an old machine.

If it has a VGA video-out port, there is no faster board you can put into it.

You can install Leopard onto a 667MHz machine by removing its hard drive, connecting the drive externally to a Leopard-capable Mac, and performing the OS installation using that machine. Then put the drive back into the Powerbook.

You will never be able to run Snow Leopard on that or any other Powerbook.

Can an aluminum board fit in a titanium board. Also can I replace the titanium casing with the aluminum? I know I would have to replace a few things but is this possible?

Let me rephrase my last post because I was half asleep and didn't think as I typed.

Will a board from an albook fit in a tibook. Also can some of the parts from the tibook fit into an albook casing.

What I am going for is to get a 1.67ghz logic board. I know this can be costly but I don't have a 1000 to just go out and buy a low end macbook. I don't really care to get snow leopard I just want leopard. maybe in about five years I will get a new Mac but for know I just want to try this.

I don't care if it is a lot of work I enjoy doing this kind of stuff.

Thank you a head of time!

Nothing from any Aluminum PBG4 will fit into or onto your Titanium G4 (or vice versa) except the hard drive and the optical drive. Everything else about them is entirely different and physically incompatible. There's no way to make any Tibook any faster than 1GHz, and nothing from your Tibook would be useful in any Albook. Planning to depend on a 2001 or 2002 Tibook for five more years starting now is foolhardy, unless you only want to use it for reading and writing email and word processing.

What you have there is an antique, perfectly suitable (as long as its internal bckup battery lasts) for the uses that were made of it nine years ago, but not capable of or adaptable to most of the uses that would be taken for granted by the average buyer of a new machine today.

    Okay!
    Just wanted to know.
I was intending to just us it for school work and writing books and what not. Didn't want to download any games onto it. I have a tashiba for that. I now I couldn't turn it into a super Mac!
I'm happy with my tibook even though I thought I was getting a albook person i bought it from mislead it's model. I don't care I just paid $60 and it works just fine.

    Thank you!

I didn't bother reading the other posts but you can do this well only if you have a newer Powerbook G4 with a the same size hard drive as the your current one, I gave my mother G4 Titanium 667ghz powerbook had just Panther on it the drive died. i put newer in was unable to upgrade. to like Leopard system wouldn't allow it so took drive out installed leopard on the drive in a powerbook G4 1.67ghz hi res did all the updates installed, ilife 09 and iwork. then put the drive back into the G4 667ghz Titanium. Well works fine just very slow. so in the end swapped back again and installed Tiger this was the best it could be with the 667ghz and the newer drive also helped the speed. so bottom line i would say if you want faster Mac at low cost eBay do a mac to mac with your old drive in a newer G4 to a lets say a Macbook Pro Santa rosa 2.4ghz then you can have snow leopard too and maybe Lion this year
