Is anyone aware of software for the Mac that does not need to run in Parallels that will catalogue a coin collection. There seem to be many for the PC but I have not been able to locate one for the MAC. Help!

    Hi happydutchman,

Your question intrigued me, partly because I have several old coins (both UK and various International denominations), which I have accumulated over some decades, and, just out of interest, I googled "Coin Collecting Software for Mac".

In 0.10 seconds Google produced a list of about 275,000 results, including several which stated either that they were "for Mac" or "Mac compatible".

However, I visited several of the sites which were listed on the first page, and not one of their coin collecting applications fitted the criteria of my search.

So much for the validity and accuracy of Google searches!

This is a bone of contention for me when I am researching something on the internet, because Google listings are more often than not riddled with results which bear no relation to either the product or subject I searched for, and I end up wasting a considerable amount of my time if I am not careful.

    However, I had another thought.

Do you use, or have you considered using Bento by FileMaker?

I do, and I have downloaded some of their free templates in the past.

So I visited the FileMaker website, and there is a "The Coin Collector" template:
    http://solutions.filemaker.com/database-templates/detail.jsp?serial=2550103

Would this be of any use to you?

    Regards,

    Bill

I would purchase a coin collecting software program for Mac. I tried using a PC program with emulation software and it didnt work. The PC program looks up values and provides images for my UK coin collection.

Wild Man Software has developed a Mac version of Exact Change.  It has more than 30,000 images and includes coins and paper money from around the globe.  The web site is www.ExactChange.Info

    Hi Biltan

I am looking for some coin collecting softwear and wonder if you have any further comments on your choice, or if you have found anything better for indexing your collection.
