Several weeks now without error. Still on first mb air. All problems ceasex when I quit using safari. Sounds like your three were all shipped to the store on a plane that blew a tire on landing! If moving the wcreen angle takes out the display, you have a hardware problem. Connector or cable to display.

I've had my lid closed while plugged in overnight and had the wake-up problems the next morning.

It's been over 3 1/2 months since I've posted here and I still haven't had one problem waking from sleep. The only thing I did was disable hibernation mode (those posts are at the top of this main thread) and there no weird side effects from doing that either. Standby time seems unaffected, 48 hours unplugged and closed results in a 5-7% drain. I use safari almost exclusively and it's usually open (while sleeping) with whatever the latest version of flash is.

I did have problems with the white screen of death after unplugging external monitors but that's fixed since 10.6.6.

I really hope Apple comes out with a solid fix for all of you asap but that's what worked for me. This is still by far, the best computer of any kind that I've ever owned.

I've found that sometimes I have had to "left click" the trackpad to wake mine from when it is open and the screen goes to sleep. You might try that when it doesn't present you with the password prompt (I'm assuming you value your safety and have set password required ) This is better than the power button.....

I am afraid not. The moving screen angle happened on all three machines. So either they are making all of them with hardware problems dodgy connectors or it is all part of the issue. THe three machines also spanned from when it was first released up until a few weeks ago so I should have different batches. The latest one had double the RAM (a small peace offering from Apple)...

Tried hibernation, tried no safari... No joy...

I agree they are lovely machines but I also had the previous two models of macbook air and although a lot slower at least they worked.

That is really bizarre! All three of your MBA's suffered from it? I've never heard of that issue with the new MBA's (quick look at other threads here didn't bring anything up). Not doubting your word, but it seems incredible that it would happen to on every MBA you had yet not on anyone else's.

Since no one else here is experiencing that specific issue with wake/sleep I should think it would be categorized as something different. Might be worth creating a separate thread for that one.

In any case, best of luck and hope things work out!

FWIW I hadn't had any sleep/wake issues with my 11" MBA (1.6GHz, 4GB RAM) since the last update, but it did occur this week. It had been idle for a few days while I traveled (took my iPad this time). I opened it up and just a black screen, no response to any keys, trackpad, etc.

I ended up holding the power button down for about 15 seconds, released it and touched it again and it came to life...didn't boot up, just woke up. It wasn't connected to A/C, it is password protected, nothing was running, "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" is unchecked, I've never run the hibernation scripts and I've never installed Flash.

As mentioned, it's been fine for a few months and I've used it many times since this most recent incident, always closing the cover and opening it and no problems. If it happens again I'll have to try the "track pad left click". Guess there's still a little more work to be done though.

I have the problem on my MBA 11" almost every time I open it up. Black screen, where I can barely make out the screen (so I can actually see it, but barely). close it, open it same thing. Close it, open it, it wakes up normally. Seriously almost every time.
Trying the hibernation solution posted earlier and will report back.

What you're experiencing is completely different than what we're talking about here. This thread is about a basic wake/sleep issue...on or off, no screen visible at all.

By your description you have a specific hardware problem. You need to contact Apple for a repair or replacement.

Thanks. In my haste, I didn't read all of the posts and inferred this post was the same as my problem.

I have the same issue on my MBA 13" The good news is that that does not happen on Lion. So there is a fix for this issue and I wish Apple would make it available soon.

So you're saying that your late 2010 13" MBA had the wake from sleep issue and now you're running Lion and it's fine? That's certainly good news if so.

FWIW other than the two times it happened to my 11" MBA, it hasn't happened since. Fingers crossed.

No problem at all...and best of luck. I'd think Apple would fix it or replace it without any issue.

Had this problem on my 13" MBA. After approx 8 calls in two months to apple support, having the logic board replaced, and a battle to get the computer exchanged, I was finally allowed to exchange this thing. Drove 2 hours each way and spent $100 in gas to do so on Monday to get my replacement. Sure enough, the replace is doing it now too (Wednesday. 2 whole days!).

I'm a loyal apple user and this is really starting to make me angry.

stop using safari. I switched to firefox months ago, and it works. Worked the issue with apple tech support. Kinda surprised the ne safari patches didn't fix it. You current on patches? er, updates.
