I started to install the iTunes 10.2 upgrade and it has been "installing" for a couple of hours now. The blue line has made it's way fully over to the right but it indicates it is writing files. I don't suppose it takes more than three hours to install iTunes

What do I do now?

iMac 24" 2.93Ghz / NVIDIA GT130, Mac OS X (10.6.6), 8 gb Ram

My inclination would be to cancel the installation. Then I'd:

Download the installer separately from Apple

back up my system to a bootable clone so if something goes wrong I can back out again.

Use Disk Utility to verify the hard drive and repair permissions.

Boot into Safe Mode by holding down the shift key while starting the computer. Be patient.

    Install iTunes.

    Repair permissions again.

    Boot normally.

Same issue as CraigS720. Had to force quit, reboot and tried installing a second time only to have the same results (Macbook air). Have not tried the process outlined in the response yet.

Thank you Limnos. Your suggestions worked perfectly!

    Thanks again.

been talking about it in another thread, but I noticed the download file size for the iTunes download installer dmg is 75mb as a dmg downloaded as just an installer and just 35mb via software update. A poster in another thread stated that QT comes in the iTunes installer for Mac, however. I knew it did with the PC version, but never realized it was that way with the Mac version..

I have an iMac and Mac Mini. I first received the iTunes Upgrade notice on the iMac and proceeded to do the download which happened very normally without issue. I then moved over to my Mac Mini. On the Mac Mini I have attempted the download four separate times with two of the time running more than three hours each without completion.

Obviously something is very wrong here.

I have a MacBook, and i'm having the same issue. The software update dialog hangs eternally just near to the end of the process...

I already verified and repaired file permissions with Disk Utility...

    Don't what else to do...

The solution for me in the end was to ignore the Software Update tool. I went direct to Apple.com and downloaded iTunes from there and it was successfully installed in a few minutes.

After reading about all of the people having problems with syncing iOS devices after the 10.2 update, I would hold off. I myself am having problems too.

Same problem here as others in this forum. Running a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.6. The Software Update has repeatedly tried and failed to update iTunes from 10.1.1 to 10.2. I finally went to Apple's Support site and downloaded 10.2 directly and tried installing it thus, and that also failed with a "contact the manufacturer" notice. So...um, hi, Apple.
In any case I seem to be out of options here and shall ignore all further prods to attempt this particular update.

So your install failed even when you attempted the download directly from the website? Isn’t that the first failure of this type in the thread? Like I posted above after several long failed attempts using the download/upgrade tool by going to the Apple website and downloading the install worked for me in a matter of minutes.

I noticed that even the direct dmg download still says "iTunes10.2.dmg" and not 10.2.1...

I just checked and it does say 10.2.1

I successfully installed 10.2.1 on both my iMac and Mac Mini with no issues like the previous version.
