Like most everything, Google is your friend... hundreds of sites with step by step instructions.

Can't be done unless you JB your iPhone.

Can be done... It needs to be in a certain format... (IIRC .aiff)

Also it has to be <30s long so no more than 29 secs...

I have the first 29 secs of "Call Me" by Blondie...

As Paul above said... plenty of sites on WWW that tell you how to do it.

When deggie said "Can't be done unless you JB your iPhone.", he was referring to the OP's question about custom text tones. You're referring to custom ring tones.

    Hey paul,

I'd like to do a ring tone that was on my Blackberry. Are you saying that I can without voiding the Apple warranty? I located the tone, and then went to Google to find some software to do it, But it sounded kind of ominous, so I gave up.

Is there a legit way that you can suggest?
    Thanks!

You can put any ringtone you want on an iPhone as long as it's created correctly. The only thing I can suggest is searching Google until you find a method you can understand... there are dozens of sites explaining this. FWIW, I don't bother with custom ringtones... it's not important to me.

Thanks, Paul. I'm not a big customizer either. It's just that I like my phone to "ring" and not play some music, or frogs croaking or whatever. And the ringtone on the iPhone is too much like the "real" phones that I grew up with, so I subconsciously ignore them (thinking regular landline phone) and not my cell phone! lol

The BB ringtone is different and I really liked it. Just thought it would be nice if I could have it on this phone. Thanks for your suggestions.

I put the T-Mobile ringtone on a friends iPhone. Just learn how to make one and then use Google to find the ringtone in an MP3 or m4r format.

I have the ringtone saved on my computer as an MP3, but that's as far as I got.
Getting it to the phone does not seem to be so easy.

Have you used this thread: http://www.ehow.com/how2160460custom-iphone-ringtones-free.html

You are going to convert it to an m4r file and add it to your iTunes Library. Then you will sync it to your iPhone where it will appear as a custom ringtone.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'll look at that thread and give it a whirl!
