My ATV2 had been working great until I installed 4.3 today. Now every couple of second there is a very annoying flicker on the screen. I have a 1080i TV. Any suggestions? Any way to go back to 4.2?

    try the usual things.
rebooting both TV and AppleTV, disconnecting HDMI cable and re-connecting etc.

Any way to go back to 4.2?

no, you can't revert back to previous versions.
you can factory restore which might revert it back to the version is shipped with, but never any intermediate versions.

I've tried all the above and no luck. Why should a software update cause this? I have been fine until I installed 4.3. I am very annoyed about this.

i'm not seeing any flickering, so it might be something unique to you.

I, too, am having this new screen flicker problem after installing the latest update. I tried rebooting the Apple TV, which entailed reentering all my passwords, etc., to no avail. Very annoying to say the least.

Same thing happened to me. I have tried restoring settings and disconnecting the ATV2. What a major bummer! Shame on you Apple for not testing this update better!

    Anyone have any other ideas?

    Hello all,

Please post the manufacturer and model number of your TV that is experiencing this flicker issue with the 4.2 update.

    Thanks,
    Roy

Worked fine before the upgrade to 4.3.

Mine is a a Panasonic CT-30WX54. Also a 1080i, but I have a scaling receiver. I hoped this update would fix the unit's propensity to downgrade the res to 480p (which I could "trick" into sticking with 720p by removing and reinserting the TV HDMI cable at the right time), but it's just made it unusable. I hope it's a hardware problem with the Apple TV so I can just return it for a new one.

What's this about 4.3? I updated my Apple TV about an hour ago and got 4.2. Engadget.com reports the update as 4.2:

iOS 4.3, Apple TV 4.2. It states both numbers in the about screen when you scroll through version numbers.

4.2 is correct, I think people are just saying 4.3 because it came out at the same time as iOS 4.3

When I first got my Apple TV at the beginning of November, it had a flickering screen problem, but there was an update shortly after I got it that fixed the problem. Today, after I updated it to 4.2 the flicker returned.

I have restarted, reset and disconnected the HDMI cable without fixing the problem. May have to give up on this Apple TV for I also suffer from the Long-Delay Streaming Issue with HD movie rentals.

My TV is a Panasonic CT-34WX54. Hopefully, there will be a quick update to fix both these problems.

Same flickering issue here on a rear projection 1080i Sony KDP-57WS550 with DVI input. ATV2 reports TV as being 480p display. Had similar issue, less flickering, more of a slight video crawling issue when I got the unit that went away with the last software update.
