Mar 9, 2011 3:48 PM in response to AppDadby Thomas Hill1,I have the flicker problem after the 4.2 update.
My TV is a Sony KV-34XBR910. -
Mar 9, 2011 3:52 PM in response to AppDadby Winston Churchill,I don't have any flickering but I note my tv tells me the signal it's receiving is 720p @ 50 Hz, it used to tell me it received 720p @ 60 Hz with software v4.1.1. My TV can receive both 50 & 60 hz.
I note (where stated), all those with this issue are from the US where TVs possibly don't support 50 Hz, if your tv has the ability to tell you what it's receiving, let us know.

Mar 9, 2011 3:55 PM in response to AppDadby drsnacks,All CRTs. I'm not "upgrading" to a washed-out flat-panel over a $99 console. I hope this is actually taken seriously as an issue. -

Mar 9, 2011 4:00 PM in response to RamonOCby RamonOC,To be more precise, it's iOS 4.2(2060) according to the "about" screen.
There is a flicker(screen flash?) at random intervals of about once per second for a few tenths of a second. And every 10-15 seconds (random), there is a complete video dropout for about a second or two. The audio is OK during all of this. It seems to affect every type of video including both menus and movies, including Netflix and home sharing. -
Mar 9, 2011 4:28 PM in response to Roy Bby CaptainTrips,So I have an HDMI-DVI adapter, which has worked fine until this upgrade. When I go into the About screen, it displays 480p for screen resolution. When I go into the Audio and Video screen, it shows HDMI set to Auto, however, it does not allow me to change this. Is there a way I can somehow trick the ATV2 to allow me to change the HDMI setting so that it doesn't say Auto, but rather 720 (or whatever options are available)? -
Mar 9, 2011 4:32 PM in response to AppDadby WassabiMac,Same flicker problem here. I bought the apple tv 4 days ago and it worked fine. I have a Sony TV using an Hdmi to Dvi cable. I had no problems at all. I updated the software to 4.2 today and it flickers every 3 seconds. Do I return it before it's to late or will this get fixed? -

Great description. I have the same flicker issue after the 4.2/iOS 4.3 update today. I have a Sony KF-60WE610 connected via a HDMI to DVI cable. -
Mar 9, 2011 4:37 PM in response to WassabiMacby Marc Bergman,Sony KF50XBR800 connected thru an hdmi to dvi cable. Before todays update, the home menu ONLY would flicker, but i could watch content. Now EVERYTHING FLICKERS. -
Mar 9, 2011 4:39 PM in response to AppDadby WassabiMac,You would think there was a way to go back to the previous software version in case the new update creates problems! Epic Fail! Video flickering makes this Apple TV useless! -
Mar 9, 2011 4:53 PM in response to WassabiMacby Tailbiter,Same issue here. I had the wobbly picture problem when the new Apple TV was first released. Now I get the flicker with this update. It's still watchable (unlike the previous wobble), but annoying. I have a Panasonic PT-47X54 rear-projection TV. -
Mar 9, 2011 5:10 PM in response to AppDadby Tsac77,Is anybody NOT having this problem with the update? Should I avoid installing it? -
Mar 9, 2011 5:10 PM in response to AppDadby slstang,Having same problem as everybody else. Have Sony 60in Wega that has DVI only. DVI cable to monster DVI to HDMI connector. Worked fine since I bought it last year. Constant flickr after the update. Called apple support, currently told to due a restore, taking forever. Anybody else try this? Don't think it is going to work. -
Mar 9, 2011 5:16 PM in response to AppDadby WassabiMac,I tried the restore and it didn't work, the restore doesn't use the factory image, it uses the latest software update which doesn't work! They should rename this restore function! -
Mar 9, 2011 5:21 PM in response to slstangby newagemac,If you are getting flickering, you should go to Settings >" Audio and Video " and then scroll all the way to the bottom and there is a new setting for HDMI output. It defaults to "Auto" but you can select it to choose the best one for your tv. It's a new setting in the latest update to give you more fine tuned control.
