iOS 4.3 drains my battery and does not auto lock

After installing iOS 4.3 on my iPhone 4, my phone has dropped 20% battery usage in 20 minutes, doing nothing. It also does not auto lock anymore, it is set to 1 minute. I tried to reset the phone and no change. The phone is warm, indicating some process is running constantly. I have made no change before the upgrade. Before the upgrade everything was working fine, after the iOS 4.3 upgrade the battery is draining REALLY fast and it does not auto lock.

Any ideas?

I have had this battery drain problem since last Friday. I've received a new handset today and just finished totally restoring it to previous. Even reinstalled a few apps that I remember bring the most recent. And I have feeling it still isn't fixed. And I haven't even gone to 4.3 yet. So I'd say pretty categorically it's not 4.3 that's doing it. Grr this isn't cool.

Like I said, iOS 4.3 restore works 100%. The moment I restored my data backup I encountered the trouble. I even tried downgrading to 4.2.1 but for some reason it asked me for an unlock pin... Never had one. Only thing that worked for me. Tried disabling push notifications, notifications, killed all apps etc. Nada.

I have been experiencing battery drain ever since iOS 4.2.1. I barely do anything on the iPhone 4 and it drops about 10%. Compared to what I used to get, there is a noticeable difference. I've done all the suggestions, push notifications, etc etc. Amazing device with great features (that you have to deactivate to preserve battery life). Not cool.

I took it to the Apple store and they tested the battery and said it is working fine. They told me it was software related and that I should restore as a new phone to fix the problem (i.e. lose all my app data).

I thought iOS 4.3 would fix the battery drain. Upgraded this morning and if anything, I think the drain is worse.

I have not tried to restore as new because I have my doubts that it will work. And I'd rather not lose my app data for an unproven solution. I'm no conspiracy theorist, but Apple will not admit they have a hardware problem causing battery drain. They always blame the apps. What is the use in multi-tasking if you can't leave apps running in the background without degrading battery life?

If anyone can confirm they restored as new and it solved their battery problem, I'd like to hear from you. Otherwise I'll carry a charger or back-up battery with me wherever I go!

So you did restore iPhone as new device and you notice the battery drain is fixed? I guess I'm heading to that route, but losing app data is kind of pain. But they said I restore from backup, it's still corrupt data, so problem with
battery will occur again. Thanks for the info.

Don't know about autolock but, I updated to 4.3 this morning. My battery was fully charged. By the time the update was done, battery was down to 93%. That was at 9am. By 4pm my battery was down to <15%. Usually, my battery starts the day at 100% and goes down to around 50% by the end of the day. I checked Push, Bluetooth, location servers, etc and all are turned off (as usual). So, I'd say something happened and, now my battery won't make it through the day. Was it the upgrade to iOS4.3 or is it coincidence?

I have to say I have seen this as well.
Updated to the IOS 4.3 GM last week and started to notice it right away. Phone would be down 50% in 3 or 4 hours with normal usage. Re-downloaded IOS 4.3 yesterday and reinstalled and while not as bad am seeing similar things happen.
I did notice that if location based services and apps were being used and left runningin the background this seemed to make the drain faster.
