Currently Being ModeratedMar 9, 2011 3:37 PM (in response to phoe66)Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes I see the same thing, I removed a movie and repopulated, the description disappeared. Although the description still exists in iTunes, I suspect this is an issue in the iTunes update rather than the Apple tv update.MP 2 x QC Xeon 3 Ghz, 12 GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.6.6)
Currently Being ModeratedMar 9, 2011 7:16 PM (in response to phoe66)I too lost all my user meta data, though it still shows in iTunes. I had laboriously added descriptions when I digitized my DVD collection, with year, director and short descriptions. Now it's all gone and I can't find a way to get it back!
Anyone know how to solve this annoying problem?MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Anyone know how to solve this annoying problem?
Tell Apple so they can fix it.

Currently Being ModeratedMar 9, 2011 8:33 PM (in response to Jon Walker)Yes, please send feedback on this issue. It's really annoying and I can't believe it's intended behavior.
While you're there, also request that "Episode ID" be displayed on ATV.
P.S. I've noticed that if the Episode Description is the same for every episode in a season, the description will display on ATV.MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
Currently Being ModeratedMar 9, 2011 8:41 PM (in response to phoe66)I'm having a similar problem. When I go to play a movie for my children and go to the Children's Genre under movies. It shows only 145 movies which is right but when I open it everything from songs, tv shows, and movies show up. Not children genre either. It had Airplane the movie, Nirvana, Say Anything, along with all my kids movies but I don't know how to fix it. The count under the genre title is right it's only after opening that it displays everything.Macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.6)
Currently Being ModeratedMar 9, 2011 11:01 PM (in response to jwilliams0523)I'm having the same problem. All of the video metadata is gone on all self-entered videos or songs. I contacted apple to report a problem but I can't believe that this is something intended. Hopefuly they will correct this very...very...very soon.Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.7)
Currently Being ModeratedMar 10, 2011 5:32 AM (in response to Alohajoe5)Hi guys,
Had the same issue and would you believe just did all the description updating last night before the SW update using: iFlicks, MetaX and cut and paste from IMBD....then updated about 02:00 to find the descriptions all missing again!! (I say all, randomly a few remained that were original MP4 and one .mov)
Anyway I now have all my descriptions back on Apple TV 2!!
I just used iFlicks and the the "Automatically Update Metadata of Selected" in iTunes ran it and one by one the descriptions are showing up in Apple tv (they never disappeared from iTunes). Admittedly this only works for descriptions that are pulled of the internet. I haven't tried editing them yet to see what happens.
Hope this helps some of you. iFlicks gives a free 14 trial with full use. The only issue I had with iFlicks initially was it chose low res pics, but now it seems it is not overwriting my high res pics....I hope!MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.6.6), AppleTV 2
Currently Being ModeratedMar 10, 2011 9:17 AM (in response to jwilliams0523)i have had this exact same problem. when i enter the childrens genre i get my entire itunes collection - songs, films, tv shows etc. i changed the genre title to kids and even the names of my kids but it didnt solve the problem. i even completely restored my apple tv2 !!iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.6)
Currently Being ModeratedMar 10, 2011 12:43 PM (in response to hypnicol)I think I fixed this issue. It seems to me that the Apple TV can't handle certain characters after the update. Try going to iTunes and changing the kid's genre to kids genre, just remove the apostrophe altogether. I did this, and it worked fine.
Currently Being ModeratedMar 10, 2011 1:34 PM (in response to phoe66)This is even weirder than I thought. My movie descriptions appear, except for those which were labelled "Unwatched." TV descriptions don't appear, except for cases where all the episodes contained the same descriptions. My genres seem intact; it's just the descriptions that are the problem.
Again, everyone please leave feedback about their metadata problems at www.apple.com/feedback; complaining on this forum won't get it fixed.MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
Currently Being ModeratedMar 10, 2011 2:31 PM (in response to Winston Churchill)This is definetlly a Apple TV Issue. I had my iTunes updated two days before updating the Apple TV and the descriptions showed fine. As soon as I updated the Apple TV meta data issues. I filed a complaint to the apple feedback, everyone else please do the same.
If this isn't fixed I will be really upset.Mac OS X (10.6.5)
Currently Being ModeratedMar 10, 2011 3:24 PM (in response to phoe66)Chaulk me up as another who lost descriptions from my tons of movies and tv shows I added myself and spent all the time adding metadata to. The date, title and genre seem to be there just not descriptions. Neither in the movie/show list nor when playing and hitting up twice.
Already reported via feedback,
Was hoping update would give back old grouped listings too. Alas, no dice.2008 Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4), 17" MBP, iPad, iPhone4
Currently Being ModeratedMar 10, 2011 4:29 PM (in response to phoe66)Just to be clear: we're all talking about metadata that is still in iTunes but won't show up in Apple TV, right?
We haven't actually lost any metadata, we just can't see it where it appeared before the update.
I just added a new movie to iTunes, and no, the description I entered does not appear on Apple TV. Cast, director, producer & length all appear, but no description. (Also no Date, but that has never been up there - I don't know why not, as it's rather essential information - perhaps someone who has not yet left feedback can add this to their complaint).MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
