Mar 11, 2011 12:57 AM in response to Andrea Perugiaby BadMelonFarmer,Have you set the "HDMI Output" setting to RGB High (or RGB Low)
If you leave the defaults it still shows the problem. -
Mar 11, 2011 3:08 AM in response to emulatormanby BriC,Finally got an Apple TV today after seeing the latest update potentially fixed this problem. My TV is also a Philips 37PFL8404, and on RGB High I've experienced no colour inversion. I just wish I could hide the new sports options on the Internet menu, though...and a few more UK options would be nice. Oh, and AirPlay is utterly awesome. -
Mar 11, 2011 8:43 AM in response to steve_acpby Millriver,So just to get this straight? when you update atv2 it shows the update as 4.2 (2060) But this really means its 4.3, is this correct?
Thanks in advance for answer. -

My original post 12 November, 2011:
+Same 'Magenta World' problem and complete color washout.+
+Purchased the ATV2 last week connected to Philips 32PF9966 via HDMI cable. Changed cables without change.+
+I took the unit back to the Mac Store and they tested it and it worked just fine.+
+They said they haven't heard of any issues.+
+Called Apple this morning and the dude was not much help, said he hadn't heard of the problem but was pretty adamant it was a TV issue and not his. Don't talk to John if you want help;-)+
+Obviously a color mapping issue and kinda bummed out.+
This morning I restored and everything looks great and fine! It even looks good under the 'default' setting without changing to RGB.
Thanks fix 4.3. Oh and BTW John from Apple, it wasn't a problem with the TV... -

Actually, it very well could be a problem with the TV. With HDMI, the TV is supposed to negotiate this sort of thing automatically with the signal source. So it sounds like by creating multiple settings, Apple is trying to work around a TV bug.
However, the possibility remains that there is a but in Apple's negotiation code, and this is a kluge to correct it.

Mar 12, 2011 6:40 AM in response to Arcade99by decsramble,It seems to be working for me now Set it to RGB High and have been watching it for some hours with no problems. It's finally the device I had been hoping for. -
Mar 12, 2011 7:02 AM in response to decsrambleby Chamar,Some useful info here thanks guys...
Recently purchased an ATV2 from a UK source. Connected to my Sony Bravia KDL-26EX302 using a quality HDMI cable. At random periods into an HD movie the screen would jump to a blue/pink colour combo. Power cycling the ATV2 or switching to a different HDMI channel and back offered a temporary cure.
Applied yesterday's software update and still had same problem. Did some more investigation and found this thread. Have now switched settings from HDMI 'Auto' to 'RGB High'. Been working now for over an hour. Never managed this before.
Fingers crossed. -
Mar 13, 2011 11:12 AM in response to Millriverby Olbea,No, it does not fix the Problem.
I have updated my ATV2 but Screen Colors are changing every 20-30 min.
I use a Philips 40PFL9704. -

Mar 14, 2011 2:14 PM in response to Manuel7270by Manuel7270,I found a new menu setting in 4.2 version. I changed hdmi to rgb high and the screen not change to Green.
Thank you. -
Mar 22, 2011 4:46 PM in response to Arcade99by dadudeness,I'm a little confused right now. I just updated to the version that was released tonight and still the HDMI Output is choosable - theoretically: It says Auto and I can't change it back to RGB High like it was before and that did not cause any trouble.
Every time I hit the Enter button on the remote, the screen turns black for a while and it says Auto again.
I started watching a movie a couple of mins ago and it hasn't turned green yet...
Hoping it behaves well and Auto finally means what it means: that it chooses the right setting automatically. -
Mar 24, 2011 3:43 PM in response to Olbeaby CesarOne,Must say that finally tonite, after software update, I was able to watch an entire film of two hours with no more problems. Used then Apple tv for three more hours and still ok.
Hope at the very end this will definitely work for all us.
