Hello all,
I'm trying to access the DVD drive in my PPC G5 (10.4.11) using the disc sharing/remote disc. The DVD and CD sharing is "on" in the G5 prefs and the MBA sees, not only the G5 in the Shared section (I can access anything on its hard drive), but also the remote disc. It pulls the G5 up but when I double click the G5, but then says "Waiting for disc dive..." forever. Firewall is off on G5 which seems logical considering that the MBA accesses everything on the G5. Scratching my head... anyone?

You might have to have a newer OS than that. Apple has a support document that describes the revs required and what to install.

Thanks but that's the info I used and it's still not happening. I think I'm going to buy the external drive for $79. It's cheaper than my time I'll spend trying to solve this. Thanks anyways-I greatly appreciate your help!

True, I've thought about getting one, but I have Macs running Snow Leopard and the remote disc has been flawless. $79 is far less than spending hours, agreed

I've been experiencing this problem as well. Just bought a MacBook Air 11.6" and am trying to remotely use the DVD drive on my MacBook Pro. I clicked on "Remote Disc" in Finder on my Air and then clicked to request access. A window duly appeared on my Pro asking if I wish to give access, which I clicked on to agree. However, after that, I just got a window on my Air saying "waiting for disc drive".

What seems to have solved it for me is to insert the disc that I want to access into the DVD drive on the Pro before I then clicked on "Remote Disc" on my Air and request access to it. In doing it this way I found no problems at all. Hope this helps.
