Mar 12, 2011 5:33 AM in response to vidguy7by Yoshi80,My 32GB black wifi model has it. It looks EXACTLY like Ben's picture but it's in a few other spots as well. Really hoping it goes away but I'm doubting it. I just seem to have awful luck with electronics. After waiting in line 8 hours yesterday I'm pretty upset. -
Mar 12, 2011 5:40 AM in response to Chriscicby JTolbert,Same issue. Waiting it out for a few days. -

Mar 12, 2011 6:10 AM in response to NiqueXyZby anilsudhakaran,That's the most idiotic thing ever. Is that how you normally use your device? -
Mar 12, 2011 6:12 AM in response to Chriscicby ClayG,I've got the same issue, as well, on a 64GB wi-fi only model. I've seen this issue before, sometimes called "stagelighting." It appears a bit on my MacBook Pro (but I gave up trying to exchange after finding that every model, even in the stores, had it, plus it's not that bad.) My iPad 1 has a bit of it, but not terribly distracting (more like a slight halo from the screen edges).
This brand new iPad 2, however, is pretty bad. It's got real blotches of light. I'm not terribly optimistic that this is an adhesive issue that will resolve itself after a few days, but I certainly hope it is. Otherwise, we may all have to start a chain of exchanges. -
Mar 12, 2011 6:50 AM in response to Tony Carreonby NiqueXyZ,OMG dude, I thought I had the worst one on the internet -- but I stand defeated.
Isn't this great? There's now a post on engadget and videos popping up all over youtube + posts on blogs about this issue. Great job Apple \ Foxconn. Also I second the comment about the ipad 2g's screen not being as good as the originals -- the contrast \ brightness is definitely different -- or there is something else different. Play two exact same movies or two exact same pictures side by side, you'll notice the differences.
Also FYI, I was playing with mine all last night, went to bed and woke up and looked at it again -- it has not gone away. Nothing has changed. I just called all the stores around here, none of them have any stock (not best buy or apple store) -- so there's NO possibility of me getting a replacement unit. Bummer...and all the people who ordered online have to wait 2-3 weeks...What a great product launch event. -
Mar 12, 2011 7:00 AM in response to Chriscicby Joseph T Bergen,I noticed the light leakage on my Verizon 64GB Black model as well last night and have since checked it this morning on the highest brightness settings. While the leakage is still there it seems to have dissipated quite a bit since last night. There is still a noticeable leakage point right above the home button and a few points around the upper lefthand corner but it seems to be receding.
I will post again tonight to see if there has been more improvement. I hope this is more related to the bonding agent that has been used to glue the screen in place as opposed to a true backlight defect. -
Mar 12, 2011 8:48 AM in response to Chriscicby blurb23,I also have 1 spot of blacklight bleed and 1 dead pixel.
What's Apple's policy on this? Will they replace it on the spot? Or if they don't have stock in order to make a replacement, will they make an note of it on your account so that it can be done later? -
Mar 12, 2011 9:05 AM in response to Chriscicby Sylo,Not sure about the US I had to ask some one about this, I think you have 14 days to return it. After that you can claim off the Apple warranty.
In the UK we get 6 months for a refund (EU LAW) and upto 6 years if it can be proven the item was defective from manifacture. -
Mar 12, 2011 2:40 PM in response to Syloby NiqueXyZ,Welp -- I got a call from apple and they hooked me up with a replacement...
Has the same exact problem:
http://i52.tinypic.com/2dtosxc.png (new unit)
I don't know what to think...Apple are super nice and doing all they can but this is clearly a mfg defect or something. I don't know which is worse, the "old" one or the "new" one -- lol. Either way -- I am done with being an early adopter, waiting in lines and being excited about new tech. Screw it. Apple has awesome support, but something is going on here and I'm done with it. The "new" one is going back and that's it. I'm gonna wait about a month or so and see if they come out with a statement on exactly what is causing the screen problems.
I'm also betting a lot more people are having this problem than are posting about it -- both of mine you could only see the problem if you were in a very dark lit room or at night.

Mar 12, 2011 2:42 PM in response to blurb23by PogoPossum,Even when Apple stores are "sold out", they seem to keep some in reserve for returns and replacements. I know this was the case with the first iPad. -
Mar 12, 2011 5:50 PM in response to PogoPossumby Dadon21,I have the same issue, I'm very upset! I'm hoping it will go away I love it to much to return it though, I'm sure it will fix itself I mean it better and come on apple ***?? -
Mar 12, 2011 6:15 PM in response to Chriscicby stvpwrs,Got an iPad 16GB Black at launch, but had pretty annoying bleeding. I got lucky and managed to exchange it today (Saturday) only to get another unit with bleeding. I am rather disappointed with Apple right now. While their customer service is excellent, this is not the quality I've come to expect from them. -
Mar 12, 2011 6:54 PM in response to stvpwrsby Yoshi80,My OCD got the best of me today so I went to the Apple Store and right away the Genius agreed the light bleed I have is beyond acceptable. They were obviously out of stock so he put in an order for my replacement. In the meantime I still have the one I bought yesterday. This is why I buy Apple; sure they may hit some snags but their customer service is top notch and they will do what it takes to keep customers satisfied.
