Mar 13, 2011 1:30 PM in response to Michael Morgan1by Rohita,I had the same problem.Took it back.Got back home checked it and had the same exact problem but worse.My speakers are jarring too.Spent almost $1000 on this innovation.Was an apple fan but now i am getting the feeling that apple is all about money and quality has become secondary.Will try taking back again and replacing.If it does that again i think apple has to answer for the people who waited in lines for hours to get thier product.I am mad. -
Mar 13, 2011 3:16 PM in response to Chriscicby trout4u,Same issue here. Stood in line for 7.5 hours in Alderwood WA. Bought a 32 GB wifi white model. Got home and noticed it as soon as I tuned it on. Its not too bad though. Getting it replaced when the stock gets back to normal. -

WOW if they told me that I would have thrown my ipad at her head. I got the same issue pretty bad all around, I got mine at Best Buy waited all of 10 minutes as the store wasn't open yet. I'll wait till next weekend to see if it goes away, otherwise I'm just taking it back and getting a refund. WIth all the iphone issues Apple knows people will just live with defective products, people are so high on Apple these days that they just crank things out with out good QA and people just accept the issues. -

Mar 13, 2011 8:33 PM in response to Chriscicby Dave__D,I initially had some glow around the top and bottom of my display and while it wasn't as bad as some i've seen on here mine seems to have faded to practically undetectable after a solid day of use. My guess is by the morning I won't be able to notice at all.
I think after a short time the glow will fade just as it did on the older devices. People just need to relax a little. You just paid a decent amount of cash, I get that, but this is a major product rollout so even if you're unlucky enough to have one that doesn't fade, Apple will make it right just like they have done in the past so crack a beer and relax is my suggestion -

Is there anyone from Apple here that can let us know if all models have this issue or if we're just the unlucky ones that bought the duds? -
Mar 14, 2011 6:37 AM in response to MikeB55by j0hnd0e,I have a 64gb black wifi and noticed the screen bleeding the first time it started up with the apple logo, Although not as pronounced at some of the images ive seen its still pretty annoying while watching a video in letterbox.
on mine its top right corner smaller areas on the bottom left.
took it to the apple store yesterday and the one person couldnt see it since the store is pretty well lit but he had another person look at it and he saw the bleeding.
i was told this was the first time they seen this on the ipad 2.
Im not sure how wide spread the problem is or maybe alot of people just dont notice it. If you dont use it in dimly lit with semi high brightness areas its very hard to notice.
anyway i was told that they had non in stock to replace it with which wasnt a suprise and that they expect it in a week or so and would call me when they have one available.
i have had it since launch and it still looks the same so i highly doubt it has anything to do with glue not drying. it looks as if there might be too much pressure in in those areas
i tend to think this is more common then not and im not optimistic that i will get a non defective replacement -

Mar 14, 2011 8:00 AM in response to striboiby Chriscic,Stopped by the Apple store yesterday; note that I didn't have my Ipad 2 with me, I just happened to stop in and I asked them about the light leakage issue.
The salesperson/team member told me he hadn't heard of the issue before (the cynical side of me says they're told to say this to downplay, but that's probably just my paranoia). He then went to the back to ask a tech, came back in a few minutes and told me that light leakage on the Ipad 2 is considered "in spec". He did say though that if it continues to bother me I should bring it in for them to look at.
My translation - there's a fairly high defect rate with this issue, and if they they just replaced all of them it would cost them too much money, so they're going to try and discourage folks from returning. If you have extreme leakage and/or make a big enough of a fuss they will probably swap it.
From my perspective, to say it's not a defect is self-serving and just plain silly; my plan is to exchange where I bought it (not Apple). I doubt a non-Apple retailer is going to argue with me and try to refuse replacement because it's "in-spec." Now, just have to wait until the stock fills in a bit.
More opinion: I still love Apple and their products, but unfortunately this is the way they roll - they move fast with new products, tend to have a lot of issues/defects, and like most companies they aren't going to make expensive fixes unless they're forced to (e.g. free bumpers for iPhone4 for a time). -

Mar 14, 2011 8:45 AM in response to Chriscicby petedgr8,I picked one up on the 12th and noticed the background bleeding. Returned it yesterday for a new one and it bleeds too. Goign to wait til the new batch comes out to replace again. The only thing is, the new batches won't be out for another month. And you only have 14 days from the date of purchase where you're guaranteed a new replacement. That means, if I wait a month, i might get a refurb or a new display. Blows...
