Is there anything like Adobe's transcription software that's a standalone product that can be used to listen to speech and convert it to text?

Anyone use such a thing and how did it work for you? I am underwhelmed by Adobe's text production, or I have a really weird accent, which I don't think I do.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

All the best,

Tom

    Haven't.

Just received a press inquiry from the company late last week.

Not exactly an inexpensive piece of software.

I use GET a lot, and love it. Super accurate. Not transcription software, though. You won't get a written transcript of anything. It analyzes your footage on the hard drive, and indexes it phonetically. You type in a word or phrase to search for, it lists all clips with that word or phrase. Great search filters, awesome product. They also "rent" it now, if you only need it for a single project, or such.

What Ben said. It won't transcribe for you, but will help you when you try to find certain words to help you "frankenbite" an interview (joining words like BUT or AND). And it will help you find footage... "I know they talk about playing tennis at one point...where was that?" Type in TENNIS and BAM, you find all the instances of where they say "tennis."

You still need to watch the footage to hear what is said, or get it transcribed, but this helps you when you are looking for specific words or topics. I don't know of any transcription software.

PhraseFind is Avid's answer to GET.

I've been wanting to get out the soldering iron and build a cable that will run from the headphone jack of my mixer, and cross the left channel to the mic ring of the other end of the cable. Plug that into my iPad and play a clip into Dragon Dictation's free app to see if that works.

    Haven't had time, though.

Transcription Softwares are not accurate as manual transcription. If the audio is very good and it is single speaker who can go for softwares like http://audacity.sourceforge.net.

For average audio quality and multiple speaker better go for manual transcription services

Tom! You can also use online speech to text services like www.speechtotextservice.com. These services are pretty good.
