Q: Wifi Not connecting

Hey Guys,

Having trouble connecting my iPad... which is brilliant by the way, to the internet. I have to sign in first through my university portal, which has worked fine on all other apple products till now. After entering the appropriate username and password, the login site stalls and goes no where. When I close, I have to start the whole process over again, getting no where fast!

I have reset both the settings and device, to no avail. The only other additional information would be that its powered by Cisco Clean Access, and I have all the appropriate settings, I have completely copied everything from my iphone, ensuring that settings are correct.

I dont know if anyone can help, thought I would place on this forum before I start contacting Apple Support, you all seem to know more then me.

If you require more information just let me know.

Chris

    Hi,

I do have exactly the same problem here in germany.
Just bought an iPad (3.2.2) and can't get a connection to my Wi-fi.
All other Computers (Windows) as well as two smartphones (iPhone 4, HTC Desire) have no problems obtaining a valid IP-Adress. Also tried several changes in the Router settings with the same result. In my opinion I should have to change anything on the router. What is fine for the iPhone 4 should be fine for the iPad! Or shouldn't it ???
I'm going to ask my retailer and if he has no idea too, i think he has to give me my money back.

    Very annoyed,
    Andreas

i was having this problem with my ipad , was working fine for a week , then just stopped connecting to internet even though it showed it was connected to wi fi . after fiddling for about an hour this is what i did
where it shows your router , it says underneath "other" ,go to this and type in the name of your router as it shown above and then click join . this worked for me , connecting again now .

I have a third party router attached to my macbook pro, and use airport internet sharing as my wireless connection. The first thing to do is check whether other devices work. For some reason I thought they did, so I wasted a bunch of time only to find out all devices were picking up wifi, but not accessing the internet. I check IP address on my iPad, it was a 169.... number, which according to others indicates you are not being assigned a functioning IP address.

When I realized all devices could not connect to the internet, I reset my router, didn't work. Then I rebooted my macbook pro, which worked. My airport has worked flawlessly with this set up as long as I have had it, so it's the first time I have had a problem.

If this doesn't work, check your time setting - while I was rebooting my macbook, I checked the time zone, which was incorrectly set on my ipad (and the time is off by about 5 minutes). I don't think that was the problem here, thought I recall when setting my computers up with a new wireless router at another location, one of the recommendations was to make sure your times were synced on your computers. I don't know why this would matter, but it could be an issue with some. My ipad is still off by 5 min though, and it is working.

Ok so easy fix here If you have an airport extreme and a broadband router connected to it. I had the same issue with my new iPad 2. The problem is in the airport settings. So on your Mac or pc open airport utility and select the router (First make sure it is completely updated). Once there select the Internet category followed by Internet connection sub category. Finally where it says connection sharing make sure you select share a public ip address. Update the router with the new settings and everything should work smoothly. The problem lies in the distribution of ip addresses to devices. The iPad requires a specific type and this fixes that issue.
    Hope this helps

Last night I was play Cod Black Ops on my hard wired xBox. I between games I was reading through my favorite websites on my I pad connected to my DIR655 wireless router. The xBox performed normal then suddenly between games I started receiving the message that safari could not connect to the Internet. I tried to turn on and turn off the wireless settings and rebooted the iPad all with the same results. The iPad was showing connected but the Internet could not be accessed. I checked my iPhone and found it in the same condition. Mean while my wife was using her wireless hp laptop without any problems and the xBox continued to play without any problems. Readying the router restored connectivity to both devices. I believe that Apple has a botched Jo implementation of DNS based on all of these comments posted here, any thoughts

Pan up and find JXV3364's solution.

This is the solution that worked for me-- airport extreme and broadband.  The broadband went down in a windstorm and when it was back up, my iPad and my 2 iPod touches would not connect to the internet, although the wifi network was working fine, there was no connection to the internet.

I spend all morning trying all the solutions above this one, and finally, this is the one that fixed the issue.

THank you very much.  The jxv3364 solution worked for me.

    Thank you, jxv3364!

    Hi Guys

I just solved this problem. It appeared that my router had run out of DHCP entries. The entry tables were full of expired connections, after deleting them I was able to connect no problem. Of course rebooting the router will also fix this.

SOLUTION that works for me and many other people. TURN OFF GEO LOCATION and after that try to connect to WiFi. I don't understand how it interconnected, but it 100% works!
