Tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings
Then restart your iPad.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Try MMe again.

Which I have done twice. I can connect my Gmail and my work accounts, and my iPhone 4 connects to MobileMe just fine. so I know my passwords and accounts are all good. I have followed the steps outlined here and still get the same, " Verification Failed. The Operation couldn't be completed. No such file or directory."
I am running 4.2.1 and am hesitant to upgrade to 4.3 based on the battery issues that I have read about.
Any other suggestions?

Never mind, I found out after that my network firewall was blocking connections to and from Mobile me. It was working on my iPhone because I was on AT&T 3g, and not Wi-Fi only like my iPad.
