Mar 16, 2011 1:25 PM in response to Nevada_Princessby Paul_31,Does the suggestion two posts above from JulianStefanov not achieve what you want? Works for me. -
Mar 17, 2011 12:43 PM in response to Paul_31by Nevada_Princess,Nope, it does not. In fact I had set up a hot corner that way when I first got the iMac. It will go dark for about 10 seconds and then com back on. Very tired of messing with it at this point....just turning the video down for now until someday there is a fix (Lion, maybe?). -
Mar 20, 2011 10:17 AM in response to Nevada_Princessby ha_an,If you are using Bluetooth Mouse, try this:
Shut off your bluetooth mouse (by closing the bottom optical thingy) and controlshifteject
It works for me... Hope it helps -
Apr 28, 2011 4:41 AM in response to theerrataby sattamassaganna,Hold the power button for 2 seconds. This will turn the monitor off. If you hold the power button for 5 seconds, it will turn the whole system off.

Aug 22, 2011 12:09 AM in response to sattamassagannaby stevenradison,Hey Apple will you please update the function of the brightness buttons so that you can make the screen 100% dark ???
This is a joke.
I don't want my brand new imac's screen coming on in the middle of the night just because I'm processing files overnight.
Please fix it !!

Dec 23, 2011 2:53 AM in response to theerrataby Lewis Miller1,OK folks I have the same issue and I found an answer.
Previous tip does not work with Caffeine (my stay-awake app of choice). I use my iMac as a Subsonic and web server (and I often log in remotely for VNC), so there are times when I want it to look dark but actually to be available and online.
1- So first thing is to install and run caffeine.
2- Now open the Keychain Access app.
3- Enable "show status in menu bar" and a padlock will appear top-left
4- Click the padlock and choose Lock Screen
5- Bingo! Your machine is 100% awake and accessible but screen is black
I have not tested this with all notifications, but seems to work for me. Please post if you have issues, or if this works for you. Very appealing to not have to run scripts and so on.

Feb 2, 2013 10:51 AM in response to Lewis Miller1by eiphoneversteher,Thanks, Lewis. Nice idea, but in my case the screensaver starts the moment I lock my screen, regardless of having switched the screensaver of by setting the timing to "never".
Any other ideas how to disable the screen of my imac 27 (late 2009)?
I'd like to record tv shows with an externel sat receiver (eyetv sat).

Jul 27, 2013 11:24 AM in response to theerrataby Somolian,The Cafeine + Keychain solution doesn't work for me as the screen saver starts no matter what. The ctrl+shift+eject works but on all screens and I want to put only the main screen to sleep and keep the mirror one awake. Any idea ?

Sep 22, 2013 8:14 PM in response to theerrataby Strangelovez, there is a really simple solution:
brightness control: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/10429/brightness-control
1. install the app, turn off any monitor (includes iMac)
2. mute the computer
3. go to sys pref > energy > computer sleep (change as you want, I did 'never')
now you have a functional comp with its monitor off and no volume (if you want)

Dec 2, 2013 6:43 PM in response to theerrataby fchung0712,If you have updated to OS X Mavericks, I think do no disturb mode will work. (I do not know if OS X Mountain Lion/Lion/Snow Leopard has do not disturb mode)

Hello from Turkey
Download the app "Shades".
That's it. Now you can push the darker button to 0%.
That's Apple Security Protocole, but we users don't like it and so broke it.
Have a nice use babay..
Apple Darker Keyboard Button: "F1"
Apple Brighter Keyboard Button: "F2"
---
Shades Darker Keyboard Button: "F5"
Shades Brighter Keyboard Button: "F6"
(easy setup to buttons in app)
(With two darker button you can the brightness down to 0%)
THE EASIEST WAY ON İMAC
